Fox Caught on Camera During Music in the Desert Show in New Mexico

🦊 Fox Caught on Camera During Music in the Desert

Sometimes you never know who might show up for Music in the Desert — and this time, we had an unexpected four-legged guest!

While we were up in the Music Studio filming our Music in the Desert show at Ka-Hoon in the New Mexico desert, a wild fox was caught on camera wandering around the property.

And now we have an important question…

Did this fox actually book a campsite to watch Music in the Desert, or was he sneaking in to catch the show for free? 😂🦊

🦊 An Unexpected Music in the Desert Guest

The Music in the Desert show is all about live music, entertainment, and the unique experience of enjoying a show from the middle of the New Mexico desert.

But apparently, humans aren’t the only ones interested in the entertainment!

While the cameras were rolling inside the Music Studio, this fox decided to make an appearance outside.

We weren’t expecting to see a wild fox become part of the night’s entertainment — but that’s exactly what happened.

🌵 Wildlife in the New Mexico Desert

One of the things that makes the New Mexico desert so interesting is the wildlife that shares the landscape with us.

You can be focused on a live music show one minute and suddenly discover that a wild animal has wandered into view.

This fox was a perfect example.

There was no invitation that we know of.

No reservation confirmation.

No ticket.

Just a fox casually making his way around the property while Music in the Desert was happening. 🦊

🎶 Did He Come for the Music?

Now we’re having fun imagining what actually happened.

Maybe he heard the music drifting through the desert and decided to investigate.

Maybe he smelled something interesting.

Or maybe — just maybe — he had already booked his campsite and was there specifically for Music in the Desert. 😂

We may never know.

But we’re officially counting him as an unexpected member of the audience

🎥 Caught on Camera

The best part is that this wasn’t something we staged or planned.

The fox was simply caught on camera while we were doing our Music in the Desert show from the Music Studio.

These are the moments that make filming and livestreaming from the desert so much fun.

You never know what might happen next.

🌙 Music, Desert Life & Unexpected Visitors

Music in the Desert isn’t just about the music.

It’s about the atmosphere, the desert setting, live entertainment, and the unexpected moments that happen when you’re doing something different.

A wild fox casually wandering through the property during a live music show definitely qualifies!

That’s one of the things we love about creating from Ka-Hoon — the desert has a way of becoming part of the show whether we plan for it or not.

🦊 What Do You Think?

So we’re putting the question to you:

Was this fox a legitimate campsite guest or a Music in the Desert show crasher?

Cast your vote:

  • 🦊 BOOKED GUEST — He came for the show!
  • 🎶 SHOW CRASHER — He was sneaking in for free!
  • 🌵 JUST A DESERT VISITOR — He had somewhere else to be!

Whatever the answer, we’re glad our cameras were rolling when this unexpected visitor stopped by.

🎵 Watch Music in the Desert

If you enjoy live music, New Mexico entertainment, desert wildlife, campground life, and unexpected moments, follow along for more Music in the Desert shows and videos from Ka-Hoon.

You never know who might show up next.

Even if they have four paws and didn’t buy a ticket. 🦊🎶🌵

Sandstorm Hits Ka-Hoon Campground: We Tried to Beat the New Mexico Desert Storm

Sandstorm Hits Ka-Hoon Campground in the New Mexico Desert

A sandstorm hit Ka-Hoon Campground, and we were caught trying to make it home before the storm arrived. 🌪️🏜️

We saw the New Mexico desert weather moving in and tried to beat it back home—but the storm got there first. We didn’t make it in time.

Within a short amount of time, the peaceful high-desert landscape around Ka-Hoon Campground was being swallowed by blowing sand and dust.

We Tried to Beat the Sandstorm Home

Living in the New Mexico desert means paying attention to the weather. A beautiful day can change quickly when strong winds begin pushing dust and sand across the landscape.

When we realized the sandstorm was moving toward Ka-Hoon Campground, we tried to make it home before it arrived.

Unfortunately, we didn’t make it in time.

Sometimes, you simply can’t outrun the desert.

The Storm Arrived Fast

The storm moved in quickly, bringing:

  • 🌪️ Blowing sand
  • 💨 Strong desert winds
  • 🏜️ Dust across the landscape
  • 🌵 Reduced visibility
  • 🌫️ A dramatic change in the desert atmosphere

This is one of those moments that reminds us that off-grid living isn’t always peaceful and predictable.

Real Off-Grid Living in New Mexico

Ka-Hoon Campground is located in the New Mexico high desert, where weather is part of everyday life.

Our experience includes everything from beautiful sunsets and quiet desert nights to wind, dust storms, sandstorms, and rapidly changing weather.

That’s part of what makes off-grid living so different from living in town.

You experience the environment directly.

There is no hiding from the weather.

Sandstorms and Dust Storms in the New Mexico Desert

New Mexico desert storms can create dramatic conditions in a surprisingly short amount of time. Strong winds can lift loose dust and sand, creating a wall of blowing material across roads and open desert.

For anyone traveling through or living in the high desert, changing weather conditions are something worth watching closely.

Our sandstorm at Ka-Hoon Campground was a perfect example.

We tried to get home before it hit.

The storm won. 🌪️

Life at Ka-Hoon Campground

Ka-Hoon Campground is more than a place to camp. It’s our home and our off-grid campground and event center in the New Mexico desert.

We share the real experiences that come with desert living—including:

  • Off-grid living
  • Desert camping
  • New Mexico weather
  • Sandstorms and dust storms
  • Desert wildlife
  • Campground life
  • Music and events
  • Life away from the city

Sometimes the desert makes the plans for you.

🌪️ Dust Devil Hits the Dusty Nail: New Mexico Whirlwind Heads Toward Campers

A sudden dust devil, or desert whirlwind, swept across Ka-Hoon Campground in New Mexico, heading directly toward the Dusty Nail and a nearby camper encampment. The swirling column of dust moved across the property before passing through the area.

Thankfully, nothing noticeable was harmed.

What Is a Dust Devil?

A dust devil is a rotating column of air that forms near the ground, usually on hot, dry days. Dust devils are common in desert environments because the ground can become extremely hot under strong sunlight.

The process begins when the sun heats the ground unevenly. The surface warms the air immediately above it, causing that hot air to rise quickly. If there is some existing rotation or wind interaction near the surface, the rising air can begin spinning.

As the rotating air column strengthens, it can pull dust and loose particles from the ground upward. This creates the familiar visible whirlwind or dust devil.

How Is a Dust Devil Different From a Tornado?

Although they can look dramatic, dust devils are not simply small tornadoes.

Most tornadoes develop in association with powerful thunderstorms and involve a rotating storm system. Dust devils generally develop from surface heating and localized atmospheric conditions, often underneath otherwise clear or mostly clear skies.

Their size, strength, speed and lifespan can vary considerably. Some are small and disappear almost immediately, while stronger ones can travel across open terrain and kick up substantial amounts of dust.

A Whirlwind Heads Toward the Campers

This particular dust devil developed in the New Mexico desert and moved toward the Dusty Nail, appearing to head directly toward a camper encampment.

For anyone camping or living in an off-grid desert environment, a rapidly moving dust devil is definitely something worth watching. Even when one doesn’t cause damage, the combination of strong swirling winds, blowing dust and loose objects can create a dangerous situation.

Fortunately, this whirlwind passed through without anything noticeable being damaged.

Just another unexpected moment in New Mexico desert life. 🏜️🌪️

Have you ever seen a dust devil this close to a campground or campsite?

Rain in the Valley: A Peaceful New Mexico Desert Monsoon Experience

There are moments in the desert that remind us why we chose this life.

Sitting high on the mesa and watching rain fall across the valley below is one of my favorite things. The New Mexico desert may be known for its dry landscape, but when the monsoon storms arrive, the entire valley transforms.

The clouds roll across the sky, rain curtains move through the distance, and the desert comes alive.

This is off-grid living in New Mexico — finding beauty in the quiet moments, appreciating nature, and sharing the journey from our little piece of the desert.

The Monsoon Arrives: First Real Rain Hits the New Mexico Desert | Off-Grid Storm Adventure at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun

The Monsoon Arrives: First Real Rain Hits the New Mexico Desert

After months of extreme heat, dry conditions, and the relentless New Mexico desert sun, the skies have finally opened. The first real rain of the year has arrived at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun, marking the beginning of monsoon season on the mesa.

For those living off-grid, rain is more than just weather—it is a moment of change. The sound of rain hitting the desert, the smell of wet earth, and the transformation of the landscape remind us how powerful and important every storm can be.

This is the beginning of our monsoon journey as we document the storms, the calm between weather systems, and the way the desert comes alive after rainfall.

The First Monsoon Storm of the Year

The first major storm of the season arrived with powerful energy. Dark clouds rolled across the New Mexico desert, winds moved through the mesa, and much-needed rain began falling across the land.

After weeks of intense summer heat, the cooler air and rainfall brought a welcome change. The desert, which can appear quiet and still during dry periods, begins to transform when the monsoon arrives.

During monsoon season, we experience:

  • Dramatic desert storm clouds
  • Powerful rain and changing weather patterns
  • Cooler temperatures after extreme heat
  • New life returning to the landscape
  • The challenges and rewards of off-grid living

At Plateau Hame De Colquhoun, every storm becomes part of the story of living with the land.

A Break Between Storms: The Calm Before the Next Wave

After the first storm moved through, we entered a brief break between storms.

The desert became quiet again, but the skies showed signs that more weather was on the way. These moments between storms are some of the most beautiful parts of desert living—the cooler air, the changing clouds, and the anticipation of the next rainfall.

Monsoon season in New Mexico is unpredictable. One moment the desert can be dry and still, and the next it can be filled with thunder, wind, and rain.

This constant change is what makes desert life so unique.

Watch the Break Between Storms

Join us during a peaceful moment between storms as we watch monsoon season continue across the New Mexico desert.

Living Off-Grid During Monsoon Season

Off-grid living means being connected to the environment around us. Weather affects our daily routines, solar power, outdoor projects, animals, and life on the mesa.

Rain brings challenges, but it also brings appreciation.

Every storm reminds us why we chose this lifestyle:

  • To experience nature firsthand
  • To protect and preserve the land
  • To build a community connected to the desert
  • To appreciate the simple moments that many people never see

Music in the Desert: Original Music From the Mesa

Dog Builds Underground Earth House 🐶🏜️ AI Sneak Peek Inside Vibria’s Desert Burrow

🌵 Vibria’s Underground “Earth House” Project in the Desert

Vibria, our desert dog, has officially escalated her digging project into what we’re now calling an underground earth house construction site 🐶🏜️

What started as playful digging has turned into a full-scale burrow-style project.

🐶 What Is Vibria Doing?

We’ve noticed:

  • Constant digging in the same area
  • Expanding tunnels
  • Deepening burrow structure
  • Strong “construction-level” behavior

Is she just digging… or building something?

🏗️ The “Earth House” Theory

Vibria’s Underground Earth House Project

It includes:

  • Multiple digging zones
  • Expanding tunnel direction
  • Strategic dirt relocation (yes, she moves it intentionally)

😂 AI Sneak Peek (Funny Version)

To add a little humor to Vibria’s “earth house” theory, we used AI to imagine what her finished underground home might look like…

The result was surprisingly simple — and honestly kind of perfect 😄

The AI showed:

  • A small underground living room
  • A worn-out couch
  • A single lamp glowing softly
  • An old TV sitting in the corner

No fancy mansion. No luxury burrow.

Just a very “minimalist desert dog lifestyle” setup… which somehow feels exactly like Vibria would approve of 🐶🏜️

🌵 Off-Grid Life Context

This is all happening within our off-grid homestead and creative space operated under Plateau Hame de Colquhoun LLC and shared through Colquhoun Entertainment.
