The Storm Hits Our Off-Grid Studio: Livestreams, Weather & Life Off the Grid

When you operate a studio completely off the grid in Central New Mexico, weather isn’t just something you watch outside the window. It can directly affect what happens inside the studio.

Storms are moving through the area, and we’re watching conditions closely at Colquhoun Entertainment. Our scheduled livestreams are still planned, but severe weather can sometimes make it impossible to maintain a normal broadcasting schedule.

Our goal is to keep Morning Mirage, Music in the Desert, and Melodious Karaoke running whenever conditions allow.

When an Off-Grid Studio Meets a Storm

Colquhoun Entertainment operates from an off-grid studio in Central New Mexico, where weather conditions can have a very real impact on livestreaming.

Unlike a conventional studio connected to the electrical grid and surrounded by easy access to services, an off-grid setup requires us to pay close attention to weather, power, internet connectivity, road conditions, and overall safety.

A beautiful desert storm can make incredible scenery, but it can also mean that plans have to change.

That’s simply part of creating content from an off-grid studio.

Why Weather Can Change the Schedule

When you’re broadcasting from an off-grid location, weather can affect more than the view outside.

Storms can create changes in conditions around the property, affect access on our rough mesa road, and create circumstances where livestreaming simply isn’t practical.

We would rather keep everyone informed than promise a livestream and discover that Mother Nature has other plans.

If weather forces us to change a livestream, we’ll let our audience know as soon as possible.

A Wild Coyote Crashed Music in the Desert! We Caught This Unexpected Visitor on Camera

🐺 An Unexpected Visitor at Music in the Desert

The weirdest thing happened during Music in the Desert last night.

And surprisingly, seeing a coyote—or possibly a lobo—wasn’t actually the weirdest part.

We’re used to wildlife being part of life here in the New Mexico high desert.

What we didn’t expect was to catch this particular visitor on camera while our music show was happening.

🌵 A Coyote Appears on the Road

We had been outside walking around just minutes before we caught him—or her—walking down the road.

Our dogs had been loose shortly before the sighting, which made the timing particularly interesting.

Then, there he was.

A wild canine quietly making his way along the road while Music in the Desert was happening nearby.

We don’t know for certain whether this was a coyote or a lobo, so we’re leaving that identification open.

🎶 Wildlife Meets Live Music

There’s something pretty surreal about living in a place where you can be putting on a live music show one minute and watching wildlife wander through the desert the next.

That’s simply part of life at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun.

We’re surrounded by open high-desert landscape, and wildlife occasionally becomes part of the scenery.

You never quite know what might wander past.

🚫 At Least He Obeyed the Signs!

Here’s the funny part.

Our unexpected visitor stayed on the road.

And, as far as we know, he respected the NO TRESPASSING signs. 😉

We couldn’t help but joke that this particular visitor had better manners than some humans!

Maybe he was just passing through.

Maybe he heard the music.

Maybe he was checking to see what all the noise was about.

We’ll never know.

🐕 The Dogs Had Just Been Outside

The timing was especially interesting because we’d been walking around with the dogs shortly before the camera caught the visitor.

That makes the sighting something we’re definitely going to remember.

Life in the high desert isn’t always predictable, and that’s part of what makes living out here so interesting.

Sometimes you never know who might show up for Music in the Desert — and this time, we had an unexpected four-legged guest!

While we were up in the Music Studio filming our Music in the Desert show at Ka-Hoon in the New Mexico desert, a wild fox was caught on camera wandering around the property.

And now we have an important question…

Did this fox actually book a campsite to watch Music in the Desert, or was he sneaking in to catch the show for free? 😂🦊

🦊 An Unexpected Music in the Desert Guest

The Music in the Desert show is all about live music, entertainment, and the unique experience of enjoying a show from the middle of the New Mexico desert.

But apparently, humans aren’t the only ones interested in the entertainment!

While the cameras were rolling inside the Music Studio, this fox decided to make an appearance outside.

We weren’t expecting to see a wild fox become part of the night’s entertainment — but that’s exactly what happened.

🌵 Wildlife in the New Mexico Desert

One of the things that makes the New Mexico desert so interesting is the wildlife that shares the landscape with us.

You can be focused on a live music show one minute and suddenly discover that a wild animal has wandered into view.

This fox was a perfect example.

There was no invitation that we know of.

No reservation confirmation.

No ticket.

Just a fox casually making his way around the property while Music in the Desert was happening. 🦊

🎶 Did He Come for the Music?

Now we’re having fun imagining what actually happened.

Maybe he heard the music drifting through the desert and decided to investigate.

Maybe he smelled something interesting.

Or maybe — just maybe — he had already booked his campsite and was there specifically for Music in the Desert. 😂

We may never know.

But we’re officially counting him as an unexpected member of the audience

The fox was simply caught on camera while we were doing our Music in the Desert show from the Music Studio.
