In the heart of the New Mexico desert, a different kind of life existsâone that strips away comfort and replaces it with resilience, silence, and truth. Off-grid desert living isnât a trend here. Itâs a way of survival.
At Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, the environment demands adaptation. The desert heat pushes limits. The vast, open silence forces introspection. And the isolation reveals who you really are when distractions disappear.
Many are drawn to the idea of off-grid livingâfreedom from systems, independence, simplicity. But the reality of desert living in New Mexico is far more intense than most expect. Water must be managed carefully. Energy is earned, not assumed. Every decision matters.
Yet for those who stay, something changes.
The desert begins to teach. It teaches patience. Awareness. Strength. You begin to understand rhythms most people never noticeâthe movement of wind, the shifting light, the stillness of night.
This lifestyle isnât for everyone. Some arrive seeking escape and leave when faced with reality. Others discover something deeperâa connection to land, to self, and to a slower, more intentional way of living.
Ka-Hoon Campground isnât just a location. Itâs a proving ground.
For those willing to embrace the challenge, the desert offers something rare: Freedom that must be earned.
Today at NOON MST, step away from the fluorescent lights, emails, and reheated leftovers and join us for a relaxed mid-day livestream â Off-Grid Talk with Melodious.
Broadcasting straight from the New Mexico desert at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun, this isnât a podcast, and it isnât a lecture. Itâs more like sitting outside with friends while solar panels hum, coffee brews, and dogs supervise absolutely everything.
Weâll be talking about: âą real off-grid living âą solar life and daily challenges âą RV and desert living âą weird stories from the middle of nowhere âą whatever the dogs decide is important
Bring your lunch. Bring your coffee. Or just bring your need to mentally escape work for a little while.
Today weâre going live again with *Music in the Desert*, a weekly solar-powered broadcast from our off-grid homestead in the New Mexico desert. No venue, no grid power â just sunlight, batteries, storytelling, and music.
Hosted by Advocatus Diaboli & Melodious, the show blends singing, parody songs, originals, covers, and unexpected moments that only happen when youâre broadcasting from the middle of nowhere. Sometimes wildlife even wanders past the cameras.
**Music in the Desert: Off-Grid Living, Solar Life & The Magic of Advocatus Diaboli**
Life in the New Mexico desert has a rhythm all its ownâquiet mornings, wide-open skies, and the hum of solar power fueling every creation at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun. Out here, everything is built with intention: the music, the campground, the shows, and even the way we live day-to-day.
At the heart of it all is **Advocatus Diaboli**, host of **Music in the Desert**, bringing original music, paranormal stories, humor, and the gritty spirit of off-grid life straight to TikTok and YouTube. What started as a desert dream has become a growing communityâa place where people come together for live music, talent shows, off-grid chats, and the unique energy only this land can inspire.
Each performance blends solar-powered creativity, storytelling, and the charm of our four-legged crew: Dreugan, Vibria, and Persephone. Theyâve become icons of the desert, keeping watch during late-night rehearsals, guarding the studio, and occasionally demanding snacks mid-show. Their personalities shine through everything we createâespecially when they get the spotlight in video content.
Living off-grid isnât always easy, but itâs real. It takes grit, humor, and the willingness to think differently when the world tries to box you in. From windstorms to equipment malfunctions to the battles we fight simply for being differentâthis land teaches resilience. And through it all, the music never stops.
Music in the Desert isnât just a livestreamâitâs connection. Itâs storytelling. Itâs the desert singing back. Whether weâre discussing solar setups, paranormal history, desert survival, or just sharing laughs, each livestream brings our community closer. And every show is powered entirely by the sunâproof of whatâs possible with passion and solar grit.
Join us for the journey, the sound, the sunsets, the dogs, and the magic that only happens out here at **Ka-Hoon Campground & Event Center**. This is creativity unfiltered, off-grid living unapologetically, and music that carries across the open desert night.
Walking the Edge of the Mesa â Offgrid Talk with Rio Grande Valley Views**
This morningâs **Offgrid Talk** took a whole new turn as I walked it right to the edgeâliterally. Living on top of the mesa at **Plateau Hame de Colquhoun** gives us some of the most breathtaking views in New Mexico, but today the Rio Grande Valley looked especially magical.
Out here, the desert air feels different. The wide-open sky, the crisp silence, and the endless stretch of the **New Mexico desert** bring a sense of grounding that you just canât find anywhere else. As I hiked along the ridge, I kept thinking about how many people dream of living offgrid but never get to witness moments like thisâmoments where nature does all the talking.
Our offgrid life isnât always easy, but mornings like this remind me why we chose the mesa. Whether weâre preparing for upcoming events at **Ka-Hoon Campground & Event Center**, working with **Colquhoun Entertainment**, or filming our **Offgrid Talk** episodes, this land always finds a way to inspire us.
From the top of the ridge, I could see the Rio Grande Valley stretching out far beyond the desert floor, a reminder of why so many people feel drawn to this place. The calm. The quiet. The freedom. Itâs everything offgrid living is supposed to be.
If youâve been following our Offgrid Talk series, expect more behind-the-scenes moments, desert adventures, paranormal notes from the West Mesa, and daily life updates right here from Plateau Hame de Colquhounâwhere the sky is wide, the nights are alive, and the mesa always has something to say.
When Hanging a No Trespassing Sign Goes Hilariously Wrong
If youâve ever lived off-grid in the desert, you already know that sometimes the land humbles youâand sometimes it just laughs at you. Todayâs lesson? Even the simplest jobs can turn into a full-blown comedy sketch.
There we were at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun, proudly holding our brand-new **No Trespassing sign**, ready to protect **our little slice of off-grid heaven**. The plan was simple: hang the sign facing the right way so strangers, trespassers, or wandering motorcyclists wouldnât mistake **our property** for a public trail.
Sounds easy, right?
Well⊠I managed to hang the sign **the wrong direction** *and* **upside down**. Yes. Both. At the same time.
So what exactly does an **upside-down No Trespassing sign** mean? Around here, apparently it translates to:
âĄïž *âTrespassers welcome. The owners are trying their best.â* âĄïž *âPlease enter at your own confusion.â* âĄïž *âWarning: Gravity and common sense were not consulted.â*
In the desert, even the signs get disoriented.
But heyâwhen you live off-grid at Ka-Hoon Campground, you learn to laugh at yourself. And considering the drama weâve seen around trespassing lately, maybe a little humor is exactly what the land needed today.
At least we got it fixed⊠after taking a picture for TikTok, because something this ridiculous **had** to be shared. Youâre welcome.
If you’re keeping up with our daily Off-Grid Life adventures, stay tuned to TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Colquhoun Entertainmentâbecause you never know what I will be hanging upside down next.
Our First Week Off-Grid: Wind, Snow, Sand & Lessons Learned
Looking back at our very first week on the land feels like stepping into another lifetime. It was October 2020 when we first arrived, ready to begin our off-grid journey in the New Mexico desert. Within just seven days, we were faced with a learning curve like no otherâ**intense winds, sudden snow, endless sand, curious cattle, and even the destruction of our first outdoor kitchen setup**.
But through it all, we had unforgettable sunsets, wide-open views, and the determination to keep moving forward. Every challenge became a lesson, shaping Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center into what it is today.
Now, five years later, weâre celebrating that journey with something special:
đ **Saturday, October 18th â 5th Anniversary Open Mic Night** Join us in person, stay a few hours, book a campsite, or tune in live from home on our **Colquhoun Entertainment TikTok profile**.
Weâve come a long way from those first windy, sandy days, and weâre excited to share where the journey has taken us.

Why We Chose New Mexico Over Minnesota for Our Campground and Event Center
When most people think of camping, they picture short seasonal getaways. In Minnesota, thatâs exactly what we facedâa very limited camping season thanks to the long, cold winters. After spending time in New Mexico for seasonal work, we realized this desert landscape could offer something completely different: **year-round camping, events, and off-grid living.**
We started searching for the right property. A few pieces of land didnât quite fit, but then we found one that checked every box: close enough to a major city for convenience, yet far enough away to enjoy peace, privacy, and open skies. Even better, the cost of this New Mexico property allowed us to purchase land and still have enough left over to start setting up right away.
Had we chosen the Minnesota property, we would have only been able to put down a mortgageâleaving nothing left to build our dream. Instead, New Mexico gave us freedom: to build, to host events, and to welcome campers all year long.
Thatâs how **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center** was bornâa place where community, creativity, and camping come together under the desert stars.
This past week has been a whirlwind. My dadâs health hasnât been great, so we made the trip to Minnesota to spend some much-needed time with my parents â and to take a little breather along the way.
For our campground guests and community, no worries â **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center** is still open! Weâre incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful friend who flew in to help hold down the fort, along with a couple of amazing neighbors keeping an eye on things. Their generosity and support mean the world to us, and we want to say a huge **thank you** to each of them!
Even when life gets hectic, the beauty of the desert and the warmth of our community remind us why we love what we do.
