With the last bits of snow now melted away, the desert sun is shining brighter each day, though not quite enough to keep us powered through the night. Living off-grid means relying on solar energy, but even here in the New Mexico desert, sunlight isn’t always a guarantee. We’re planning to build another solar array soon to increase our energy capacity, but timing is everything. On the rare calm days with mild weather, other responsibilities often take priority.
### Building Our Off-Grid Community
We’ve also welcomed a few long-term members to our off-grid community, and it’s been rewarding to see them embrace the membership program. Here, members find a unique balance of freedom and security. **Surviving the Heat and Looking Forward to Our Members Weekend**
This year’s heat has been relentless. Normally, we can manage, but with temperatures soaring early in the year and showing no signs of letting up, it’s been a real challenge. Yesterday, we decided to bring in the big wind tunnel fan from our music studio to help cool down the RV. It made a difference—while it was a scorching 115°F outside, we managed to keep it at 92°F inside. In the evenings, when the temperature finally drops, it’s actually cooler outside than in. We often sit outside to cool off, but by then, the heat of the day has left us exhausted. Not complaining, but… well, maybe just a little!

Despite the heat, we’re looking forward to our upcoming Members Weekend. Each month, we host a members-only event where camping is free, and members get to decide on the activities. Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers! Today was an errand-filled day for us as we headed into town for groceries, laundry, and showers.
Yesterday, we discovered a cable had come off the combiner box from a set of solar panels. We made sure to flip the main breaker before starting the repair. However, while we were in town today, we received a notification that the inverter was offline. It dawned on us that we had forgotten to flip the breaker back on. With temperatures soaring over 100 degrees and no fans running inside, we rushed home, concerned about our dogs getting too hot.
By the time we arrived, the power had been off for an hour, but thankfully, the RV was still 25 degrees cooler than outside, and our dogs were happy to see us. While we are away, we monitor the temperatures inside and use cameras to check in on the dogs. When the inverter goes offline, we lose internet connectivity, but we do receive a warning indicating the inverter is nearing our shutdown point of 50%.
Despite the challenges of off-grid living, we are grateful for these experiences and the opportunity to celebrate Father’s Day with our loved ones.

In the midst of uncertainty, Dreugan, a unique mix of Husky and Rottweiler, entered our lives, offering solace during a challenging time. Settling into an unfamiliar area during the COVID lockdown, with few connections and harsh conditions, our 26-foot class C RV became our sanctuary. With an outdoor kitchen sheltered under a portable carport, we adapted to the unpredictable climate. Dreugan’s presence provided a much-needed distraction and companionship as we navigated through our dreams amidst the ongoing uncertainty of our new surroundings.

Hight Temperature and RV living
We watched a RV YouTube video and they were saying you can’t be without AC in a RV in extreme heat stating “all RVs are heat boxes”.. It’s 103 out today and 89 inside. Maybe to some 89 is too hot, but to us it’s not that bad. (Ignore the date on the weather station, it doesn’t connect to the internet anymore). 14 degrees cooler in a class A with windows open and running a fan isn’t bad. You can do it without AC, is it for everyone? probably not.

Prepping a few things for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow! We will be having our first Thanksgiving with a few of the neighbors..
Monday Brent and I went in and got our third Moderna shot, so we took yesterday Tuesday off knowing we may not feel the best. But means today we have a lot to do to get ready for tomorrow. We’ll be having dinner in what we know call the Living Room was the “Guest House”. But it isn’t quite ready so today we are hoping to finish it up!

Day Two in the Hotel
It’s official we’d rather be in a RV than a Hotel.. We are hoping the RV will be finished Thursday than we can get out if here. Sure being able to take long hot showers is nice, but the dogs can hear people walking and talking down the halls, having to walk them out past others who fear them just due to their size.
Solar controller update; the AIM Solar Power Solutions controller was supposed to come in this week. Today we where informed that they are out of stock on that controller, we may not be able to get one until the end of the month…
The RV AKA “The Beast” is getting new brakes, maybe rotors they are going to try to turn them, transmission, brake flush, wheel bearings packed and an oil change. Statkus Engines Service Center

Puppy Life in a RV
First time raising a puppy in a RV.. Issue one we have no room for a crate inside. Especially one that he will grow into.. I had put a clothes basket at the end of the bed then covered it, so he could sleep there at night.. He stayed first 2 hours, he now sleeps next to my pillow. It’s Okay for now, but when he’s grown and 100 lbs it’s not going to work…
