**Living Off-Grid: Finding Strength in Life’s Challenges**
Life in the New Mexico desert is a blend of peace and resilience. Surrounded by tranquil beauty and endless skies, it’s easy to find moments of calm. Yet, even in this serene landscape, challenges persist—reminders that living off-grid is not for the faint of heart.
Many people romanticize off-grid living, envisioning it as a carefree escape from modern life. The reality is far more complex. Life here can be harsh and unforgiving, testing our determination and ingenuity daily. However, it’s also profoundly rewarding, offering a connection to nature and a lifestyle of self-reliance that few ever experience.
We’re currently navigating one of those trying times that reminds us why so few have settled this rugged land. From what we’ve learned, not even indigenous peoples made their homes on this part of the mesa—though if you know more about its history, we’d love to hear your insights!
Right now, our RV’s propane fridge has stopped working, likely due to a faulty igniter coil or module. Replacement parts are scarce, and modern alternatives don’t seem to match the original setup. While the fridge runs fine on electricity, the shorter days make it difficult for our solar system to keep up at night. A small backup fridge in the Greenroom helps, but the frustration of troubleshooting and tight finances adds to the weight of the situation.
To add to our challenges, the heater in our pickup has failed, leaving us wondering if the heater core needs replacing. And perhaps the hardest trial of all: our beloved 14-year-old companion Willow isn’t doing well, and we fear a difficult decision may be on the horizon.
Life out here is as demanding as it is rewarding. But it’s during these tough times that we find clarity and purpose. Whether we’re problem-solving through equipment issues or leaning on each other during emotional moments, the beauty of this lifestyle is in its simplicity and resilience.
Even with the hardships, the desert offers a unique gift: a chance to pause, reflect, and remember why we chose this path. Challenges may come and go, but the sunsets, starry skies, and peaceful solitude keep us grounded.
If you’re considering off-grid living, know that it’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. The trials will test you, but the rewards will inspire you to keep going.

Unforgettable Weekend: Advocatus Diaboli Live & Rangoli Celebration at Ka-Hoon Campground!
**Embracing Community and Celebrations at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun (Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center)**
It’s been a whirlwind weekend here at Ka-hoon Campground and Event Center! Last Friday, Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band rocked Albuquerque, keeping us out until the early hours of the morning. We returned home around 3:30 a.m., knowing we had just a few hours of sleep before getting everything ready for our much-anticipated Rangoli celebration.
Despite the exhaustion, we managed to unload the trailer, prep the firepit, and kick off another memorable Rangoli. This event, where we gather to draw our intentions around the fire, dance, walk, and stomp them into the ground, always brings our community together in a meaningful way. Though we thought our tiredness would cut the evening short, the energy of the Rangoli kept us going until midnight, longer than we’d expected!

Ka-Hoon Campground: A Unique Desert Escape for Solo Travelers, Campfire Nights, and Adventure
At Ka-Hoon Campground, we’re often asked why we don’t offer free stays or create a long-term living community for individuals seeking a place to settle. While we respect the concept, it’s not what we envision for our space. Ka-Hoon is designed to be a place where you can enjoy short-term stays, feel valued for your individuality, and engage with the natural surroundings while respecting and protecting the land.
Our campground offers a unique experience where you make your stay your own. Whether you’re looking to socialize around the campfire, listen to music, share a potluck, or simply relax in your campsite, we offer the flexibility for you to enjoy your time how you wish. You can also take a peaceful hike, soak in the desert atmosphere, or join in our scheduled events.
Throughout our journey, we’ve lived in various places and often felt isolated, even when surrounded by other campers or RVers. At Ka-Hoon, we aim to foster a welcoming environment where everyone feels a sense of community, even if it’s just for a night. Come stay with us and experience a place where individuality is celebrated, and connections are made.

Rehearsing in the studio with wonderful campers visiting from Switzerland and celebrating retirement travel!
Yesterday was a busy day in the studio as we spent most of it rehearsing. In between, we had the pleasure of hosting a couple of wonderful campers. It’s always enjoyable giving tours and visiting with guests who come from all walks of life. One of our campers was a father and son who had just embarked on a two-week vacation to tour the USA, all the way from Switzerland! We were honored to be their first stop on such a special journey. Another camper had just retired from truck driving and is now planning to enjoy all the sights and experiences they had missed while on the road. We wish both of them the best on their travels!
If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with a welcoming community, be sure to visit us at **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center**.

Busy Labor Day weekend at Ka-Hoon Campground with community BBQ, camping, and lending a helping hand.
Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend! We don’t have too much planned, but we’re excited to have a bunch of folks from the community over for a BBQ today.
There isn’t much news to report, but we’re definitely enjoying the cooler days. Brent has been busy helping out around the community, which he loves doing. He recently helped a neighbor install a new breaker box and wire in some GFI plugs to support their dialysis machine. He also spent most of the day driving another neighbor, who doesn’t have a vehicle right now, to town for errands and groceries.
We’ve had a nice weekend with campers enjoying the cooler weather. Yesterday, we took some time to fix the solar lights that the cattle love to knock down.
Last night was Anne’s first real shift at Love’s, and she seemed to enjoy it. It was a bit tough on us, as we worried about her working the late shift. Thankfully, a few folks from our community stopped by the store to check on her and then reported back to us, which really helped ease our minds.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone!

Experience the Best of Community and Nature at Ka-Hoon Campground!
**A Weekend of Community and Family Fun at Ka-Hoon Campground**
This past Saturday, we hosted our monthly Members Only community event, and it was a great success! We had a wonderful turnout, with members coming together to enjoy a tour of the mesa, followed by a relaxing movie night under the stars. It was an enjoyable evening filled with laughter and good company.
On Sunday, we took a well-deserved day off to spend some quality family time. We visited the Range Cafe for the first time, where we indulged in a delicious meal. It was a delightful experience that added a nice touch to our weekend.
As we begin the new week, we are thrilled to welcome new campers to Ka-Hoon Campground. There’s something special about seeing visitors immerse themselves in the beautiful surroundings and make the most of their stay. We always look forward to these moments and the opportunity to share our little slice of paradise with others.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the upcoming events and the continued sense of community that makes Ka-Hoon Campground such a unique and welcoming place.

Navigating to Ka-Hoon Campground: What You Need to Know Before You Go!
**Navigating to Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center: Why You Should Avoid Powerline Rd.**
Planning a trip to Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center? It’s important to know the best routes to take for a smooth journey. While your GPS might suggest Powerline Rd., we highly recommend avoiding it for several reasons.
### Why You Should Avoid Powerline Rd.
Powerline Rd., though not the worst road in terms of washboard, presents unique challenges. The road has more ruts and sharp turns, especially in the area we call the “switchbacks,” where the drops can be steep and tricky. This can be particularly challenging for trailers and low-profile vehicles. Additionally, Powerline is a private road that may have gated sections, restricting access without prior approval.
### The Recommended Route
For a safer and more comfortable drive, we provide detailed directions on our website that guide you along the preferred route. This road, though more frequently used and slightly more washboarded, has fewer ruts than Powerline Rd. and is much wider, making it more accessible for most vehicles.
### GPS Considerations
We strongly advise against relying on GPS navigation when heading to Ka-Hoon Campground. GPS systems tend to direct drivers down roads that are far worse than Powerline Rd., which could lead to unnecessary complications on your journey.
### Get the Best Directions
For the safest and most reliable route, please visit our website for step-by-step directions. Avoid the pitfalls of unpredictable roads and ensure your visit to Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center starts off on the right track.

A few solar issues arose recently, including a cable being torn off the combiner box. We are unsure how this happened but are currently working on better safeguarding the area to prevent future incidents.
Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band will be performing at Stage Luchetti on June 29th.
Needed
Additionally, we are in need of an old 10×10 canopy frame (or equivalent). We don’t need the top; the frame doesn’t need to be perfect but should be repairable. We plan to decorate it with fairy lights and set it up in the Cahoots Courtyard. If anyone has something that could work, please contact us.
Thank you all for your continued support!

Embrace Nature and Acceptance at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center
Experience Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center – A Place of Acceptance and Tranquility
Here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, we aren’t anything fancy. We don’t have electric hookups, sewer services, or internet access. What we do offer is a place to relax, feel safe, meet others, listen to some music, or just hang at your campsite without fear of judgment. Everyone is welcome here, no matter who you voted for, what religion you follow, your sexuality, what you sleep in, or how much money you have.
We created this space because we often felt like outsiders ourselves, awkward and judged in many places we visited. When we embarked on this journey, we wanted to create a place where no one felt that way. We love nature, history, the stunning views, beautiful skies, and music, and we believe our location is rich with all of these. We aim to preserve this land and share it with others, with the only rules being simple: respect yourself, others, the land, and local laws.
Sadly, in our society today, we need to generate income to support ourselves and protect the land from development. However, we strive to keep costs affordable for everyone who wants to visit, whether it’s for camping, attending a festival, or participating in an event.
We also aim to provide a space where the local community can sell their goods and wares to support themselves. You can help support our goals by coming to camp, attending an event or festival, sharing our posts, liking, commenting, visiting our website, or telling your friends and family about us.
