Moonlight Turned Our Desert White?! Off-Grid Night Surprise at Ka-Hoon Campground

**Moonlit Desert Magic at Ka-Hoon Campground: When Sand Looks Like Snow**

Last night, I stepped outside expecting the quiet desert darkness… but instead, it looked like we had gotten a dusting of snow. The ground had a soft, white glow to it—like winter had somehow crept into the New Mexico desert.

But it wasn’t snow at all.
It was the **moonlight hitting the sand**, turning the desert floor into a pale, shimmering landscape. It was one of those off-grid moments where nature plays tricks on you in the best way.

Out here at **Ka-Hoon Campground**, every day—and every night—brings something unexpected. The desert has its own personality, its own humor, and its own beauty that shows up when you least expect it.

**Comment below:**
Would YOU have thought it was snow if you stepped out and saw the desert glowing white in the moonlight?

We Left the Desert Behind… Road Trip to MN with Family Health on Our Minds 🚗💔🌵

A Busy Week, Family Time, and Campground Updates

This past week has been a whirlwind. My dad’s health hasn’t been great, so we made the trip to Minnesota to spend some much-needed time with my parents — and to take a little breather along the way.

For our campground guests and community, no worries — **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center** is still open! We’re incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful friend who flew in to help hold down the fort, along with a couple of amazing neighbors keeping an eye on things. Their generosity and support mean the world to us, and we want to say a huge **thank you** to each of them!

Even when life gets hectic, the beauty of the desert and the warmth of our community remind us why we love what we do.

Percolator Coffee Hits Different 🌄 | Morning Off-Grid Life with Dogs, Crafts & Peaceful Desert Vibes

Morning Coffee, Quiet Moments, and a Craft I Don’t Even Like**

Mornings are my time. Whoever wakes up first—usually me—gets to enjoy the quiet calm of the desert before the day begins. With a cup of coffee in hand and the dogs lounging nearby, I get a few moments of peace to myself before the campground starts to stir.

This is when I do a bit of everything—update the website, edit a video, jot down a blog post, or chip away at whatever project I’ve got going. Right now, it’s a diamond painting someone gave me. Honestly, it’s not really my style, but I promised myself I’d finish it before moving on to one I actually like. Sometimes, finishing something you’re not in love with feels like a little win—especially with a hot cup of coffee and some tail-wagging company at your feet.

These little rituals keep things grounded, even when everything else is chaos.

Busy Days & a Peaceful Birthday Night – Campground Life, Rehearsals & Taking Time to Unwind!

**Catching Up & A Birthday Well Spent**

First off, thank you to everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes! Your kind words truly mean a lot.

Lately, we haven’t been posting as much as we’d like—life has been keeping us busy. Between hosting campers and members, running Anne to work, rehearsing, and working on doing more live streams on TikTok and Clapper, our days have been packed. Finding personal time has been a challenge, and unfortunately, daily posts tend to be the first thing to get sacrificed.

My birthday was a simple but perfect night. After a day of errands and tasks at Ka-Hoon Campground, we took the evening for ourselves. A few rounds of cribbage, good music, and plenty of laughter made for a peaceful, drama-free celebration. Sometimes, the best moments are the quiet ones spent with those who matter most.

We’ll do our best to keep up with sharing more updates—until then, we’re embracing life as it comes, one busy but fulfilling day at a time!

Limited Memberships Now Open: Join Our Desert Camping Community & Sponsor a Stay!

Membership Program at Ka-Hoon Campground

We’ve received a lot of interest in our membership program, but some concerns have been raised about the fees. While we understand that not everyone agrees with paying for a space, we’ve implemented these fees based on experience and a commitment to maintaining the land and providing a safe, welcoming environment.

### **Why Membership Fees Matter**
Over time, we’ve tried to help people by allowing free stays, bartering, or offering cheaper arrangements. Unfortunately, this often led to disrespect for us and the land. We’ve dealt with broken tents, large amounts of trash, and damaged property. Because of these experiences, we’ve decided that free stays are no longer sustainable.

However, we **do still offer bartering opportunities** and have discounted weekly and monthly rates for members.

Membership fees go toward:
– Maintaining and protecting the land
– Building and adding compost toilets, shelters, and amenities
– Trash removal as needed
– Purchasing additional land for expansion

Our goal is to provide a beautiful space where members can park RVs, vans, or tents and feel at home. Membership ensures that you won’t be asked to move unless you break the minimal rules, and all members have a voice in shaping these rules.

### **Preventing Overcrowding**
To maintain the peace and quality of the campground, we are **limiting the number of membership spaces**. As spaces open up, we will update the availability:

– **5 Spaces Available (as of 12/17)**

### **Sponsored Memberships**
We understand that not everyone can afford a membership but may still need a safe, welcoming space. To help, we’ve introduced **Sponsored Memberships**.

– If you’d like to sponsor someone, you can use the links below. Please **note it’s for sponsorship** when submitting your payment.
– Sponsored memberships are only valid as long as the sponsor continues to pay.

**Current Sponsored Membership Availability:**
– Sponsored Memberships Available: **0**

If you’re interested in applying for a sponsored membership, please **contact us directly**.

### **Why Join Ka-Hoon Campground?**
We offer more than just a place to stay:
– A sense of community in a beautiful, off-grid desert environment
– Input on the rules and growth of the campground
– Affordable rates with flexible payment options

While there are free options, such as nearby BLM land, our space offers stability, a home-like feel, and the opportunity to be part of a community.

**Join us, sponsor someone in need, or explore your off-grid desert home today!**

Off-Grid Life: Sunlight Struggles & Community Wins in the New Mexico Desert!

**Life Off-Grid: Balancing Sunlight, Solar Power, and Community in the Desert**

With the last bits of snow now melted away, the desert sun is shining brighter each day, though not quite enough to keep us powered through the night. Living off-grid means relying on solar energy, but even here in the New Mexico desert, sunlight isn’t always a guarantee. We’re planning to build another solar array soon to increase our energy capacity, but timing is everything. On the rare calm days with mild weather, other responsibilities often take priority.

### Building Our Off-Grid Community
We’ve also welcomed a few long-term members to our off-grid community, and it’s been rewarding to see them embrace the membership program. Here, members find a unique balance of freedom and security. They each have their own small piece of land to call home, creating a space that reflects their individual personalities and needs. But there’s also the reassurance of nearby support. Members can turn to one another for advice, help with projects, or even just a friendly conversation, while still enjoying privacy and personal space.

### Benefits of Off-Grid Membership
Our membership program isn’t just about living off-grid—it’s about building a community that values independence and self-reliance, while also supporting one another. Members experience:

– **Personal Freedom**: The freedom to live off-grid, with few restrictions, allowing members to create a lifestyle that suits them.
– **Community Support**: Having others nearby who understand off-grid living and are willing to lend a hand or offer advice.
– **Privacy**: The ability to enjoy their own space while being part of a close-knit community.

As we continue to build out our solar capabilities and enhance our facilities, our community remains at the heart of what we do. Here, we’ve created a space for those who seek both independence and camaraderie, and it’s rewarding to see others enjoy this way of life as much as we do.

Surviving the Desert Heat: Behind the Scenes at KaHoon Campground

**Surviving the Heat and Looking Forward to Our Members Weekend**

This year’s heat has been relentless. Normally, we can manage, but with temperatures soaring early in the year and showing no signs of letting up, it’s been a real challenge. Yesterday, we decided to bring in the big wind tunnel fan from our music studio to help cool down the RV. It made a difference—while it was a scorching 115°F outside, we managed to keep it at 92°F inside. In the evenings, when the temperature finally drops, it’s actually cooler outside than in. We often sit outside to cool off, but by then, the heat of the day has left us exhausted. Not complaining, but… well, maybe just a little!

### **Exciting Perks for Our Members**

Despite the heat, we’re looking forward to our upcoming Members Weekend. Each month, we host a members-only event where camping is free, and members get to decide on the activities. Membership comes with some great perks, including discounts on all events we host, items in the Dusty Nail General Store, and camping. Members also enjoy exclusive access to the Cahoots Courtyard when it’s a VIP area, one free night of camping, and free admission to the Halloween Hootenanny.

If you’re interested in learning more about our membership program and all the benefits it offers, check out our website [here](https://plateauhamedecolquhoun.com/membership/). Whether you’re seeking a community to connect with or just looking for great deals and unique events, our membership is designed to give you the best experience possible.

Stay cool, and we hope to see you at the next Members Weekend!

Father’s Day at Ka-Hoon Campground: Off-Grid Living Adventures

Happy Father’s Day from Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers! Today was an errand-filled day for us as we headed into town for groceries, laundry, and showers.

Yesterday, we discovered a cable had come off the combiner box from a set of solar panels. We made sure to flip the main breaker before starting the repair. However, while we were in town today, we received a notification that the inverter was offline. It dawned on us that we had forgotten to flip the breaker back on. With temperatures soaring over 100 degrees and no fans running inside, we rushed home, concerned about our dogs getting too hot.

By the time we arrived, the power had been off for an hour, but thankfully, the RV was still 25 degrees cooler than outside, and our dogs were happy to see us. While we are away, we monitor the temperatures inside and use cameras to check in on the dogs. When the inverter goes offline, we lose internet connectivity, but we do receive a warning indicating the inverter is nearing our shutdown point of 50%.

Despite the challenges of off-grid living, we are grateful for these experiences and the opportunity to celebrate Father’s Day with our loved ones.
