Water Supply Challenges and Community Solutions at KaHoon Campground

### Water Supply Challenges and Solutions

We often get asked about how we manage our water supply. Here are some insights into our current options and challenges:

#### Bulk Water Hauling

We can haul bulk water using a 275-gallon IBC tote, which is the most cost-effective solution. We plan to rely on bulk water once we start building the shower facilities.

However, there are significant issues with hauling bulk water. The weight of the water combined with our rugged roads makes it tough on vehicles and trailers. The repair costs for our vehicles can outweigh the savings from hauling water ourselves. This challenge is one reason why we’ve paused our shower construction.

#### Community Solutions

We’re hoping that by banding together with the six households in our area, we can find a more sustainable solution. Ideally, we’d hire a delivery service that can cater to all of us. Unfortunately, our initial plan fell through when the suspension on our potential delivery person’s truck broke down.

#### Well Installation

The cost of drilling and maintaining a well isn’t feasible for us at this time. It’s a long-term goal, but for now, we need a more immediate solution.

#### Interim Measures

Until we figure out a reliable delivery method, either through a service or by organizing ourselves, we are using 5-gallon jugs filled at Twice the Ice. It’s not the most convenient method, but it gets us by.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate these challenges. We’re committed to finding a better solution soon.

Unforgettable Night at Stage Luchetti: Advocatus Diaboli & Grim Leafer Band Live!

Exciting Times Ahead at Stage Luchetti!

Next Saturday, Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band will be playing at Stage Luchetti in Albuquerque, and we couldn’t be more excited! We decided to check out the venue beforehand to see what it’s like, and we have to say, we were thoroughly impressed.

The atmosphere at Stage Luchetti is wonderful. The owner, Rick, and his family are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a vibe that’s not much different from what we strive for here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center. Although we didn’t get a chance to meet the first band, MUerTAPHORIA, we did get to meet Falling Fire. All I have to say is: great people, great band!

Advocatus Diaboli is thrilled to be playing at Stage Luchetti next weekend. We fully support what Rick and his family are doing for the local music scene. If you’re in the area, we highly recommend checking it out and giving your support to Rick, his family, and the local bands.

On a related note, we’ve recently encountered some criticism from a local promoter who sees us as competition. We want to make it clear that it’s not about competition—it’s about supporting each other. The success of one venue helps lift the entire community. So let’s come together, enjoy some fantastic music, and support the local arts scene!

See you next Saturday at Stage Luchetti!

Unforgettable Night at Ka-Hoon: Drum Circle Magic Under Cloudy Skies!

**Reflecting on Last Night’s Drum Circle: A Night of Rhythm and Connection**

Last night’s drum circle at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center was a resounding success, filled with vibrant energy, rhythmic beats, and a sense of community that brought us all closer together. Despite many of us being novices, the experience was nothing short of magical.

**A Welcoming Gathering**
We were delighted to see a nice group of participants show up, all eager to take part in the drum circle. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation as we gathered around the bonfire, ready to make music under the stars.

**Finding Our Rhythm**
Even though many of us didn’t have prior experience with drumming, that didn’t deter our enthusiasm. The initial uncertainty quickly gave way to spontaneous creativity. With a mix of hand drums, shakers, and other percussion instruments, we started to find our collective rhythm. It was heartening to see everyone encouraging each other, sharing tips, and learning together.

**A Night of Connection**
As the night progressed, the beats became more synchronized, and we lost ourselves in the music. The drum circle turned into a powerful means of expression, where words were unnecessary, and the rhythm did all the talking. Laughter and smiles were abundant, and the sense of connection was palpable.

**Under the Starry Sky**
There’s something incredibly special about making music outdoors, under a blanket of stars. The natural beauty of the New Mexico desert added to the ambiance, making the evening even more unforgettable. The flickering bonfire, the rhythmic drumming, and the vast night sky created a perfect setting for a memorable experience.

**Looking Forward**
We left the drum circle feeling invigorated and looking forward to more such events. The drum circle not only allowed us to explore our musical sides but also fostered a sense of community and shared joy. Whether you’re a seasoned drummer or a complete beginner, we welcome you to join us next time. It’s an experience that promises not just music, but also camaraderie and fun.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening special. We can’t wait to drum with you again soon!

Unexpected Sky Sighting: SpaceX Rocket or Alien Encounter? Offgrid living in the New Mexico desert.

Unexpected Sighting: SpaceX Rocket or Alien Encounter?

Yesterday, as we were on our way home from showers, we had an unexpected and thrilling sighting. In the sky, we noticed a mysterious object that immediately captured our attention. At first, we couldn’t figure out what it was. Could it have been a SpaceX rocket? Or perhaps something more otherworldly, like an alien spacecraft? Either way, it was a spectacular sight.

This intriguing object appeared to glide over or behind Ladrone Peak, adding a touch of wonder to the already majestic landscape. The play of light and shadow as it moved created a mesmerizing scene that left us in awe.

For a moment, we were torn between scientific curiosity and imaginative speculation. The sight of a SpaceX rocket is always an impressive reminder of human ingenuity and our reach for the stars. On the other hand, the idea of witnessing an alien spacecraft sparks the imagination and brings a sense of mystery and excitement.

Whether it was a SpaceX rocket or an alien visitor, the experience was unforgettable. It’s moments like these that remind us of the vastness of the universe and the many wonders it holds.

So, next time you’re out and about, keep your eyes on the sky—you never know what extraordinary sight you might encounter.

Evening Relaxation: Cats, Cool Breezes, and Peaceful Companionship

Evening Relaxation: Cats and Cool Breezes

As the temperature cools off in the evenings, there’s nothing quite like spending time outside, enjoying the cool night breeze. Whether you’re relaxing or working on a task, these moments are made even more special by the company of our feline friends. During the day, the cats usually find a cool spot under one of the containers to nap, but once night falls, they come to lay on or with us, sharing in the peacefulness of the evening.

There’s something truly comforting about their presence as we unwind after a long day. It’s a reminder of the simple joys and quiet companionship that make these evenings so enjoyable.

Discover KaHoon Campground’s Solar Repair Adventure at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun!

**Discover Ka-Hoon Campground: A Lesson in Solar Maintenance and Community**

At Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, the fusion of community and sustainability unfolds in unique ways, exemplified during a recent gathering at Cahoots Courtyard. We extend a warm welcome to visitors interested in our mission and activities, inviting you to schedule a personalized tour and chat.

During a leisurely Saturday with our newest Ka-Hoon Campground members, we encountered a practical lesson in solar panel maintenance. A cable from our solar array required attention, prompting us to shut down the main breaker for safety. After a straightforward repair involving relocating the cable to a spare connector, we inadvertently overlooked one crucial step – restoring power by turning the breaker back on.

The consequence of our oversight surfaced the following day while we were away running errands. An alert notified us of a potential shutdown of our inverter, a critical component of our solar setup. Thankfully, upon returning home, we swiftly rectified the situation, restoring normal operations and avoiding any prolonged disruption. Despite our prompt response, the afternoon’s overcast skies limited our solar recharge capacity, underscoring the importance of meticulous breaker management.

At Ka-Hoon Campground, these moments of shared learning and communal engagement define our commitment to sustainable living. Whether you’re captivated by our solar initiatives or simply eager to learn more about us and our aspirations, we encourage you to connect with our community. Join us on this journey where each day presents new insights and collaborative opportunities to thrive together.

Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band will be performing at Stage Luchetti on June 29th.

Needed

Additionally, we are in need of an old 10×10 canopy frame (or equivalent). We don’t need the top; the frame doesn’t need to be perfect but should be repairable. We plan to decorate it with fairy lights and set it up in the Cahoots Courtyard. If anyone has something that could work, please contact us.

Father’s Day at Ka-Hoon Campground: Off-Grid Living Adventures

Happy Father’s Day from Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers! Today was an errand-filled day for us as we headed into town for groceries, laundry, and showers.

Yesterday, we discovered a cable had come off the combiner box from a set of solar panels. We made sure to flip the main breaker before starting the repair. However, while we were in town today, we received a notification that the inverter was offline. It dawned on us that we had forgotten to flip the breaker back on. With temperatures soaring over 100 degrees and no fans running inside, we rushed home, concerned about our dogs getting too hot.

By the time we arrived, the power had been off for an hour, but thankfully, the RV was still 25 degrees cooler than outside, and our dogs were happy to see us. While we are away, we monitor the temperatures inside and use cameras to check in on the dogs. When the inverter goes offline, we lose internet connectivity, but we do receive a warning indicating the inverter is nearing our shutdown point of 50%.

Despite the challenges of off-grid living, we are grateful for these experiences and the opportunity to celebrate Father’s Day with our loved ones.
