Windy, Cloudy day in the Desert. Cloudy rainy days are rare here. Wish we could say the same about the winds, winds up here on the Mesa can be damaging and unpredictable at times. You can have days of solid 20 to 30 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph or more. Everything must be solid, tents work for short term stays, with some type of wind blockage. When we have tent campers stay we advise them to watch the flag and move their vehicle accordingly to block winds.

113 degrees with no AC is not easy, sitting in front of the fan feels like you’re sitting in front of a heater. Floors are hot in the RV, even toilet feels hot. We close the shades to try keep the sun out, it helps until evening, when it’s suddenly hotter inside then out.
If it isn’t the wind it’s the heat… We have so many projects to finish, yet to hot during the day, few if our neighbors go out at night after it cools off. Our issue we’d rather get good sleep when it’s cooler, rather than trying to sleep during the heat. So we try to do a little bit in the evening and early morning. What have you found that works during hot days? I like to jump in water, but no water here in the desert.

Since the wind picked up I went out to see if the pipes we put in did whistle. I’m happy to say they did, though in the video it’s hard to hear them due to the winds..

The first day of low winds in a while means getting a few maintenance projects done. Weeding, much needed cleaning up the hut (which will last until the next wind, sand storm).
We came up with the idea of putting a few pipes around the fire-pit ring, each pipe has holes drilled into them. The hope is that when it gets windy the pipes will make some whistling sounds.
(It’s an honor thing to the winds…😉 )
Surprisingly we have a few campers booked this weekend. We figured with it being Easter weekend we wouldn’t have any bookings. But so far it’s been one of our busiest weekends.

Sorry we haven’t posted in a few days. Last few days the only thing we’ve been doing has been sitting out the winds. “Fun” part of living on the desert is the winds, especially when you’re on a Mesa. When you go outside your eyes, mouth, get full of sand. Mask helps a little but not much.
Today was better, tomorrow we have another private event, which means getting things setup and cleaned up, tumble weeds are a never ending battle.

Back here Plateau Hame De Colquhoun we are getting ready for a small private event. We haven’t had much of a chance to start working on the new store front. But hoping soon we’ll be able to. So many projects, so little time. We have high wind advisories for tomorrow, which means we won’t get much done. But that’s okay as it’s off to the dentist tomorrow for me.

We can’t say it’s been our favorite time here on the mesa the last 4 days. We had 3 days of high winds ripping through and tearing up things. Yesterday the winds stopped we were able to put some of the things back together then took a few minutes to relax and burn. Video of the wind and damages it caused will be on the next Wednesday video.

Winds are our biggest difficulty out here. We do have plans to help block the winds, build premit structures but its a slow process.
Later in the season we will be planting trees, Pinions, Cedar and Juniper to help create wind blockage.
