Talent No Talent Open Mic Music in the Desert

This is our second community open mic event. The first event was more successful than we could have ever imagined. So much so many asked us to do another one.

So we had a meeting of neighbors who all graciously come together to make this happens.

We all love where we live, find it peaceful, we’re not just neighbors, we are a family. As a family, we have opened our doors so other people can enjoy the unique atmosphere we have up here in the middle of the desert on top of a mesa.

Come up enjoy the day and come meet our family. Campsites are available check our website for more info on reserving your spot.

Bands bring tent, RV you get the night free to camp. You must contact us to reserve your spot a head of time.

Our Audio Engineer and MC is Brent he is the owner of Plateau Hame De Colquhoun . Brent has been audio engineer, vocalist for over 30 years. He had toured with a group called Jester, he has produced, co-produced, and written, done vocals for himself and with others. He has been part of audio engineering for bands like Tautha Dea, Zwaremachine, Wendy Rule, SJ Tucker, and more…

Finally a nice day! Life in the desert

We are little less then 2 weeks away from the Talent No Talent Open Mic. We had hopes of having shower and second compost completed by then. But weather has slowed us down (actually set us backwards a little). We are also trying to find plastic pallets (not the ones with the big holes) to use as a portable stage. If you know of any please let us know.

Life in the Desert and getting services

Living in the desert is quiet, peaceful with beautiful views of mountains, fresh air, and the most awestruck views of the night sky.

But like with every pro there is a con. The big con for us is deliveries and services, we are not able to get US Postal Service , UPS , or FedEx to come out. Yesterday was yet another disappointing service failure #trashpickup. All our neighbors agreed to want some type of trash pickup service, as like us, they hate having to haul it off ourselves, for an often wasted two hour trip because the landfill seems only to be open as they choose to.

Yet again we got nothing but disappointment, not because the trash company won’t come, but the cost of them coming.. Not only would there be a monthly trash bill, but also a mileage and hourly bill for their driver, as they say it’s to far out (remind you we are only 14 miles from town). But this company Valley Sanitation, LLC. . has the only contract with the county of Socorro and in order for them to get here they have to drive out of their way to Belen which is in a different county.

There is a south access up here that would save about 50 miles, but the county is unwilling to maintain it, so right now it is not passable for a vehicles of any type. If this access was available we would have just normal costs for service as well as other availabilities. It’s really a waste for us that we live in a county when we can’t even access the county or the services our taxes are providing for. Maybe, #MichelleLujanGrisham our Governor here in New Mexico will have a different perspective.

Quiet night Around the Bonfire

Quiet Friday night sitting around the fire! Been a busy week of running, and haven’t been able to get much work done here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun .

Always seems to work that way when the days are nice, we have the weekend, free but it’s supposed to be windy.

The May 7th Open Mic “Talent no Talent” Show is run by a community of neighbors up here on the mesa. It’s a way to share an environment that is safe and nonjudgmental and get to know others while sharing a few products that are made up here in the desert on the West Mesa.

Plateau Hame De Colquhoun hosts the events. Plateau Hame De Colquhoun ( Plateau Home Of Colquhoun Ka-Hoon) is owned and operated by Brent and Melodie Calhoun. It’s an off-grid dispersed campground, event venue.

Happy Valentine’s

Happy Valentine’s Day!! Today was a slow day, cleaned up tumble weeds that gathered under everything I guess part of desert life. Brent Colquhoun took Anne and I out to eat for Valentine’s at a wonderful local restaurant #oasis in #Belen.

Tomorrow we’ll be heading back into town to pickup a shipping box that we plan on using for either a store front or shower.
