**Dealing with Injury Off-Grid: A Tough Start to the Day**
Today looks like it might finally be a nice day, but our focus is on getting Brent to the doctor. We suspect he injured his rotator cuff when the wind caught the studio door while he was trying to close it. At first, he was dealing with the pain, but this week things took a turn for the worse—he lost feeling and grip in his fingers and hand, and now his arm is swollen.
We’ve tried everything: ice, heat, massages, Icy Hot, anti-inflammatories, and exercises we found online—nothing is helping. Brent isn’t one to rush to the doctor, but at this point, it’s become clear that a visit is necessary.
Living off-grid, we’re used to handling things ourselves, but sometimes, you have to know when it’s time to get professional help. Hopefully, we can get some answers and relief for him today.
Stay tuned for updates as we navigate another unexpected challenge in off-grid life.
**Surviving the High Winds and a Stubborn Cold—Desert Life Edition**
We’re on **day two** of relentless high winds, and while we’ve learned over the years how to secure just about everything, there’s always something we forget—like an entire **trash bag**, a **clothes hamper full of laundry**, or even **part of a car seat** left behind by a camper. That last one has taken a few trips across the yard, courtesy of Mother Nature, and now it’s on our ever-growing list of things to haul off.
If there’s ever a “perfect” time to be sick, I guess this would be it (though I’d gladly skip the sick part). Both of us have been battling a cold—**negative for flu and COVID**, thankfully—but it’s still draining. No fevers or body aches, but plenty of **sore throats, low energy, and overall crankiness**. And let’s just say my voice is practically nonexistent at this point.
So, how did we spend this windblown, sickness-induced lockdown? **Benadryled up, buried under blankets, and binge-watching *Stranger Things*.** Sometimes, you just have to embrace the forced downtime and let the storm pass—both the one outside and the one raging in your sinuses.
Here’s hoping for **calmer skies, better health, and fewer runaway objects in the yard** in the coming days!
**Shamshini’s Solo Debut & St. Patrick’s Celebration at Mini Red Velvet Underground**
Brent (aka Advocatus Diaboli ) and I ( Melodie , moderator—or whatever Advocatus decides to call me) have been battling a stubborn cold. Thankfully, we’ve tested negative for flu and COVID, but that didn’t stop Advocatus from pushing through when he was supposed to rest his voice.
Since he was *supposed* to take the night off from singing, Shamshini stepped up for her first solo live rehearsal—and she did great! It was a fun and unique experience, though, of course, Advocatus Diaboli just couldn’t resist joining in.
Now, we’re gearing up for an epic night of music, mayhem, and St. Patrick’s Day vibes! You’re invited to experience the magic of ** Advocatus Diaboli, Shamshini, and the animatronic band**—**Spliff on bass, Roach on drums, and Blunt on keyboards**—live at **Mini Red Velvet Underground in Albuquerque**.
Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band
📅 **Date:** March 16th ⏰ **Time:** 7:00 – 9:00 PM 📍 **Location:** Mini Red Velvet Underground, Albuquerque, NM
Come for the music, stay for the madness—let’s make this St. Paddy’s celebration one to remember!
**Life at Ka-Hoon: Off-Grid Living, Music, and Community Updates**
**Daily Life and Projects**
We try to post daily videos, but there’s only so much we can show without becoming repetitive. As the weather warms up, we’re able to tackle more outdoor projects—but deciding which one to start with is always a challenge.
One big project we keep putting off is the **new solar setup**. The delays come down to a few things: – We need several consecutive good weather days to build it. – We’re unsure if we have all the necessary materials. – We still haven’t settled on the perfect location.
Right now, our existing solar setup works fine, but expanding it would provide **more power for the studio**—something we definitely want. It’s not an urgent need, but it’s a project we’re excited to complete when the time is right.
**Advocatus Diaboli & Shamshini: Music & Rehearsals**
On the music side, **Advocatus Diaboli and Shamshini** continue live rehearsals, hanging out, and singing on **TikTok and Clapper**. Sound quality for live streams has been a challenge, but after lots of testing, we think we’ve finally found the right setup!
If you haven’t yet, follow us on **TikTok and Clapper** to catch our live sessions, interact, and be part of the experience!

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, we took the night off and headed to Tractor Brewing Company Wells Park in Albuquerque for an evening of live band karaoke with Albukaraoque . This unique experience allows participants to sing their favorite songs backed by a talented five-piece band, offering an interactive and memorable show.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for both Shamshini and Advocatus Diaboli to rehearse in a lively setting. Shamshini, who has been working to overcome stage fright, found that participating in these live performances has significantly boosted her confidence. Since the inception of Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band project, her progress has been remarkable.
One aspect I personally love about live music is the authenticity—the occasional mistakes, voice cracks, and technical malfunctions. These imperfections make each performance unique and genuine. If I wanted perfection, I’d opt for studio-recorded music and never attend a concert.
For those interested in experiencing this for themselves, Albukaraoque hosts live band karaoke at Tractor Brewing – Wells Park every third Saturday of the month. It’s an excellent way to enjoy live music and perhaps even take the stage yourself. citeturn0search16
Tractor Brewing – Wells Park is located at 1800 4th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Their hours vary throughout the week, so be sure to check their official website for the most up-to-date information. citeturn0search6
Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just looking to have some fun, live band karaoke with Albukaraoque at Tractor Brewing offers a welcoming and entertaining environment for all.

**Vibria the Escape Artist: Our Ongoing Battle to Keep Our Pup Contained**
Vibria, our energetic rescue pup, is now around 6 to 7 months old—and proving to be quite the escape artist! Despite her small size, she’s mastered the art of slipping through the rails of our fence. To outsmart her, we initially attached a scrub brush to her harness, making her too big to squeeze through. That worked… for a few days. Then, she figured out another way to make her great escape.
Today, we picked up a budget-friendly plastic wind fence to reinforce the existing one. We didn’t have time to snap photos during setup, as we were racing against the setting sun and incoming winds, but I’ll try to grab some tomorrow. Fingers crossed this solution works!
We’ve already made several adjustments to keep Vibria safely contained—from reinforcing the fence under the RV to securing the gate she learned to push open. Our original plan was to use chicken wire, but the store was out of the size we needed, and the alternatives weren’t budget-friendly. So, we settled on this plastic fence as our latest attempt.
Check out the video of Vibria enjoying her time running free! She’s allowed outside when we’re with her, but she has other ideas—sneaking off to the members’ tent, playing chase with the kitties (sometimes catching them for a round of puppy slobbers), and, of course, sneaking some of their food.
Stay tuned for updates on whether this new fence holds up against our little escape artist!
The world feels more uncertain than ever, and sometimes, we all need a break from the chaos. If you’re looking for a place to relax, recharge, and truly be yourself without fear or judgment, **Ka-Hoon Campground** is here for you.
Whether you want to stay for a night, a few days, or explore a **long-term getaway through our membership program**, we offer a peaceful desert retreat where you can unwind and reconnect with what matters most.
