Hot Day on the Mesa

Nothing like sitting outside and enjoying the moonlight after a hot day!

We’re still having issues with getting the videos edited. Hopefully soon this issue will be resolved and we’ll be putting out videos regularly again!

We are still having issues with the solar system that the controller had gone out on.. So we are putting building the new system in overdrive. We’ve picked up the lumber for Phase 1 of the build!

Plateau Hame De Colquhoun

Our family lives off-grid here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun. Since moving onto this vacant property in the desert last October, we’ve had learned and achieved so much.
We are working on building a bigger solar set up.
Have one container placed that we plan on turning into a library, studio.
We have a small building with a compost toilet.
Built communal Firepit
Figured out Water storage.
We have built a road that is big enough to accommodate big Rvs and trailers!

Our future plans

Get another container for kitchen and sitting area.
Compost gardens
Plant trees
Build an outdoor shower
Build stage off studio
Build deck top of container for even better views of the #riograndevalley!

Issues

We’ve been having phone and camera issues, which had been making it hard to release videos and post pictures. We are working on a solution and hopefully this issue will be resolved soon!

Update on our adventure!
We are in MN and will be enjoying our time with friends and family for another week, before heading back. Once back we are hoping to jump into building the new solar (will positive thoughts that the price of lumber will be lower)! We already have campers (#plateauhamedecolquhoun)booked for August (only a few spots left!) and looking forward to get back into the role of our modern Pioneerism!!! #modernpioneerism #artoftinyliving

Echo-Worthy Solar

This is what happens when a controller on your solar setup fails and over charges the batteries.. This setup us less than a year old. Still under manufacture warranty.. We have another 3 yr extended warranty in top of that.

Yet the company #echoworthy ignores all attempts We’ve made to contact them. They keep telling us tech support will call or ema us back.. that they’ll mark it urgent.. 3 weeks still nothing, we have filed a complaint with BBB but idk if that’ll help as there’s already many complaints filed.

Upcoming Travels

Getting things ready for an upcoming trip. In June we’ll be heading out to present our “Modern Pioneerism” at a couple festivals throughout the Midwest. We are hoping to share our experiences to help others achieve their own Modern Pioneerism without as much learning curve as we’ve had!

Our workshops we’ll be offering..

Setting the vision.

We found ourselves in late 2019 looking to discover a place in the world that was ours. We felt that the fates had led us (intentional or not) onto a path of discovery for ourselves. There was a way of living that was difficult to define to others, much less clearly understood by us. We knew just a taste of what was possible within what we were already doing in a tiny environment. The leap was certainly an opportunity to see something for all of us and answer the question, did we hold within the spirit of those ancestral footsteps, to break the ground where few feet have tread?

**Back ground…….

**the sizing down….

**Why the Hell New Mexico?

**What would the elders have said?

**Oh Shit!!!! It’s Covid!

Plateau Hame de Colquhoun.

What is it that drew us here? These harsh wastelands of the Mesa, the desert, the badlands of the American SW. There is this sense of being “out there” that is easily envisioned and yet meant to be only experienced. Surrounded by vast lands and hugged by the mountains, it does leave one with a feeling of abandon and isolation, and yet comfort. What a better place to find yourself and learn of your merits and your might. Like those of a different age, we have to discover what works for all of us, and what is the most sustainable method of our existence within a small footprint, in a place that only allows for shallow roots.

**Getting there is the easy part?

**The learning curve

**Living in the Wild, Wild West ( this isn’t the 1880’s)

**What’s to make of Necessity? ( where want and Need collide)

**Footprints in the sand

Where do we go from here?

When we think about the possibilities, we make choices. What fits the now vs. what can wait..and what is most important to us. We have a desire to be nomadic. We have a want to expand out into places of meaning and yet develop and grow with what we have at home. The conundrum of the contradiction? Maybe?

**There is always an option

**The Spoke and the Hub

Cleaning Day

Cleaning day.. We don’t fill up the tank in the RV so means boiling up hot water. For drinkable water we fill up 4 5 gallon jugs at walmart to use. This will change once the new solar is up and going… Once the solar is up we have 3 / 330gallon tanks full of water that will be hooked up to a well pump. Progress part2.

So, until then we run the generator to vacuum, and remain in travel mode for showers. When will the solar be up, you may ask? We had planned to have it built and up by now.. But with shipment delays and  price of lumber we have decided to wait until after our upcoming trip.

Gotta love camping #plateauhamedecolquhoun  #artoftinyliving #modernpioneerism #art_of_tiny_living #offgridliving #solarsystem #solarpower #rvliving #rvlife #camping #dishwasher #cleaning #vacuum #Genny

No Electricity

Sitting here this morning listening to the wind hit the RV, wishing we had electricity to charge up our devices, watch TV. Yes we can run the generator and do all that. But that also means a noisy generator and using gasoline. But it’d also mean missing the sound of the wind blowing, or even sound of Dreugan at my feet snoring.

Soon we will have the new solar built, set up and it’s big enough to run the RV and Brent’s studio. Which means we can finally get Brent’s stuff out of storage and get the container set up. Then hopefully for the first time since we started this adventure on the West mesa ( or as we call it “Plateau Hame De Colquhoun”) we can feel at home.

Don’t get me wrong we are home, we love it here. But a huge part has been missing and it’s been in storage.
