I Tried Hanging a No Trespassing Sign… and It Went Hilariously Wrong! (Upside Down?!)

When Hanging a No Trespassing Sign Goes Hilariously Wrong

If you’ve ever lived off-grid in the desert, you already know that sometimes the land humbles you—and sometimes it just laughs at you. Today’s lesson? Even the simplest jobs can turn into a full-blown comedy sketch.

There we were at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun, proudly holding our brand-new **No Trespassing sign**, ready to protect **our little slice of off-grid heaven**. The plan was simple: hang the sign facing the right way so strangers, trespassers, or wandering motorcyclists wouldn’t mistake **our property** for a public trail.

Sounds easy, right?

Well… I managed to hang the sign **the wrong direction** *and* **upside down**. Yes. Both. At the same time.

So what exactly does an **upside-down No Trespassing sign** mean?
Around here, apparently it translates to:

➡️ *“Trespassers welcome. The owners are trying their best.”*
➡️ *“Please enter at your own confusion.”*
➡️ *“Warning: Gravity and common sense were not consulted.”*

In the desert, even the signs get disoriented.

But hey—when you live off-grid at Ka-Hoon Campground, you learn to laugh at yourself. And considering the drama we’ve seen around trespassing lately, maybe a little humor is exactly what the land needed today.

At least we got it fixed… after taking a picture for TikTok, because something this ridiculous **had** to be shared. You’re welcome.

If you’re keeping up with our daily Off-Grid Life adventures, stay tuned to TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Colquhoun Entertainment—because you never know what I will be hanging upside down next.

When the Neighbors Are Cows 🐄 Sunset Visitors at Ka-Hoon Campground | Off-Grid Life with a Laugh!

When the Neighbors Are Cows: Sunset Visitors at Ladron Peak”

Out here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, our “neighbors” tend to wander in without knocking — and tonight, it was a herd of free-range cattle stopping by for a sunset stroll! 🐄

While most folks get visits from friends or delivery drivers, we get cows casually grazing their way through the desert, acting like they own the place. As the sun dipped behind Ladron Peak, painting the sky in gold and fire, our four-legged guests posed perfectly for nature’s evening show.

Living off-grid means sharing space — sometimes with coyotes, sometimes with wind, and sometimes with a curious cow sniffing your camper steps. But honestly, it’s part of the magic out here. Peace, laughter, and the occasional moo. 🌄

If you’re looking to experience real desert life — complete with unforgettable sunsets, open skies, and maybe even a surprise cow encounter — visit http://www.plateauhamedecolquhoun.com and book your stay today!

Thinking of Long-Term Off-Grid Camping? Watch This Before You Book Your Stay!

Try Before You Stay: Why We Recommend Short-Term Off-Grid Camping First

At Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, we get asked all the time about long-term stays. While we do welcome longer bookings, we always suggest starting with a short-term visit first.

Living off-grid or camping long-term isn’t quite the same as traditional camping. Every location, setup, and community has its own rhythm — and we want you to make sure it’s the right fit before committing.

A shorter stay gives you the opportunity to adjust, test your setup, and get a feel for the land, the desert environment, and our off-grid lifestyle. Many guests who plan for months end up realizing they prefer shorter visits, while others fall in love and extend their time here.

We want your off-grid experience to be positive and comfortable — and that starts by giving yourself the space to try it first.

Book a few nights, breathe the desert air, connect with nature, and see if Ka-Hoon Campground feels like home.

Living on an Island in the Sky 🌄 The Stunning Edge of the Mesa Overlooking the Rio Grande Valley

**Life on Our Island in the Sky – The Mesa Overlooking the Rio Grande Valley**

If you’ve followed our blog, watched our videos, or joined our livestreams, you’ve likely heard us describe our home as an *“island in the sky.”* What we mean by that is the mesa where we live—an elevated desert landscape with sweeping views and a beauty all its own.

Over the past months, we’ve taken you along the edge of this mesa during livestreams, and shared photos and clips that capture just a glimpse of the experience. But seeing it in person is something truly unforgettable. The edge drops off dramatically, opening to the breathtaking Rio Grande Valley below. It’s a reminder of the raw, natural power of the desert and why we chose this lifestyle in the first place.

Living off-grid on a mesa comes with its challenges—wind, isolation, and rugged terrain—but it also offers freedom, peace, and connection to nature that can’t be matched. Every sunrise and sunset feels like a gift when it stretches across the valley floor, painting the sky in colors that pictures never fully capture.

For us, sharing this journey isn’t just about showing the views—it’s about inviting you into the off-grid lifestyle, the lessons we’ve learned, and the beauty that makes it worthwhile. Whether you’re interested in off-grid living yourself or simply curious about life on the mesa, we hope our stories inspire you.

Stay tuned for more videos, livestreams, and photos as we continue exploring and sharing our island in the sky.

This isn’t your typical BINGO game. At our off-grid desert campground, we do things a little differently. The only thing you need to play BINGO is to bring five wrapped white elephant gifts!

❓What’s a White Elephant Gift?

A white elephant gift is a quirky, humorous, or secondhand item you no longer need, but that might spark fun and laughter for someone else. These can be silly trinkets, gently used items, or something unexpectedly useful. The idea is to keep it light-hearted and fun — you never know what you’ll unwrap! The randomness is half the fun.

🎁 Examples of great white elephant gifts:

  • A book you’ve read and loved
  • A funky coffee mug
  • A puzzle or board game
  • An odd kitchen gadget
  • A gag gift from last Christmas
  • Something homemade or offbeat

Everyone goes home a winner, and part of the fun is seeing what treasures others bring!
