Xenolith Attacks the Mesa: Rebuilding After the Hail Storm That Destroyed Our RV

Living off-grid on the New Mexico West Mesa means facing the raw, unfiltered elements of nature every single day. While the open skies framing Ladrone Peak offer unparalleled beauty, they also carry immense power. Recently, a devastating 15-minute storm unleashed 3-inch hail across Plateau Hame de Colquhoun, completely totaling our old RV beyond our ability to repair. It was a heartbreaking loss, but out here, we don’t let destruction have the final word.

Bringing the Lore to Life: Xenolith vs. Cully the Desert Dragon

To tell the story of this transition, we brought our custom mesa lore to life through a cinematic, comic book-style animation video. In this original Clan Colquhoun Entertainment in Association with A.I. Synthesis production, the brutal storm is personified by the evil villain, Xenolith. As the villain unleashes fury upon our homestead, Cully the Colquhoun Desert Dragon steps up to fiercely defend our home.

Though Cully’s energy barrier fails against the absolute power of the storm—mirroring the real-world destruction of “The Beast” RV—the story ends on a note of defiance and new beginnings. By the end of the video, you will see Cully standing guard over our replacement classic Fleetwood Bounder, Chief! The weather can crush a rig, but it can’t stop our spirit or the music.

The Soundtrack of the Defiance: Crimson Dominion

An epic battle needs an equally powerful soundtrack. The animation features the driving, heavy rhythms of “Crimson Dominion,” an original track by vocalist and songwriter Brent Calhoun, aka Advocatus Diaboli & The Grim Leafer Band. It is the perfect anthem for standing your ground when the elements try to push you off the mesa.

Goodbye to The Beast: Moving Into Our Off-Grid Music Studio After Devastating Storm Damage

Today marked the absolute end of one era and the beginning of another on the New Mexico West Mesa. With a heavy heart, we watched our old friend, “The Beast,” get hauled away. This wasn’t our plan for things to come, but nature had other plans. A brutal 15-minute storm completely totaled our RV, forcing us to adapt, pivot, and find a new way forward in the rugged high desert.

Saying a Bittersweet Goodbye to The Beast RV

I definitely cried seeing the Beast hauled off today. That RV was more than just a vehicle; it was the foundation of our off-grid sanctuary here at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun. It carried us through countless desert nights, high winds, and beautiful mornings framing Ladrone Peak. However, I am incredibly proud to say I was able to drive him one last time before the tow truck arrived, even if it was a very short drive down our dirt road.

Transitioning to the Music Studio: Our Temporary Off-Grid Home

When nature forces your hand, you have to find shelter where you can. We are officially spending our first nights sleeping inside the music studio. It is a tight squeeze and a massive transition, but it serves as our temporary home while we actively look for a replacement camper setup. Staring out at the incredible high-desert sunrise this morning helped remind us why we fell in love with this isolated landscape in the first place.

As we say goodbye to the past, we already have our sights firmly set on a replacement. We are looking for a new rig that we hope will help us create just as many—if not more—unforgettable memories under the New Mexico stars. Out here, the community keeps us moving forward.
