Off-Grid Dog Playtime at Ka-Hoon Campground
Life off-grid at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center isn’t just about humans enjoying the desert—it’s also home to our furry family! Vibria, Dreugan, and Lurch love to play together safely inside their pen after a long day of guarding the homestead. We keep our dogs in a secured area for their safety and to respect the campground rules—no loose pets for everyone’s comfort and protection. Even so, that doesn’t stop the fun! Watch as they chase, tumble, and show off their desert joy from their play space here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center.

Cat Turns Desert Into a Jungle—You Won’t Believe What It Hunts Next! 🏜️😹
The Desert Stalker: Life Lessons from a Cat on the Hunt
Living off-grid in the desert means learning to move with purpose—just like our desert cat. Watch as this feline stalks through the tall grass like a miniature lion, every step calculated, every rustle suspicious. Out here, even a tumbleweed can be an enemy—or a toy.
When you live off-grid, you start to see a bit of yourself in the cat: alert, patient, and maybe a little too proud after catching nothing but dust. But that’s desert life! You adapt, you hunt for what you need, and you do it with style (and maybe a flick of the tail).
So grab a cup of coffee, watch the hunt, and remember—out here, survival looks a lot like curiosity with attitude.

Fan Spins Backward Then THIS Happens?! Mysteries of the West Mesa | Caught in the Desert 🌵
Vault Video: Mysteries of the West Mesa — “Sucked Off” | What Happened That Night?
Out here in the New Mexico desert, strange things can happen when you least expect them.
One May night, while lying in bed, the box fan in our window suddenly stopped… then began spinning backward. Almost instantly, we felt a strange pressure — as if the air itself was being sucked from the room.
Our first thought was that our solar system had gone out, but everything else was still on. Then, as Brent reached for the fan, it suddenly returned to normal — running like nothing had ever happened.
Thinking it might be a tornado, we ran outside only to find a clear, starlit sky. As we stood there trying to make sense of it, a group of military helicopters appeared out of nowhere, hovering over us for several seconds before heading north, disappearing into the night.
What do you think this was? A coincidence, an environmental anomaly, or something more mysterious?
Stay tuned for more episodes of **Mysteries of the West Mesa** — and don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments!

Haunted Hayride Memories: A Look Back at Our Spooky Community Fun at Ka-Hoon Campground 🎃🚜
This **Vault Video** takes you back to one of our favorite community events — the **Haunted Hayride** hosted right here at **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center!**
The hayride wasn’t just about spooky fun — it was about **bringing people together**. All hayride proceeds went right back into the community, helping fund **projects and improvements** that everyone could enjoy together.
Alongside the hayride, we filled the night with **live bands**, **campsite-to-campsite trick-or-treating**, **games**, **bonfires**, **potlucks**, and more. Every year brought something a little different — new faces, new frights, and new memories.
Whether you were here for the music, the laughter, or the screams echoing through the desert night, each Haunted Hayride was a reminder of what makes this community so special — people coming together under the stars.
👻 **Each year’s events vary**, and the Hayride may or may not return, so **stay tuned for our 2026 schedule!** You never know what spooky surprises might be waiting in the desert…

Solar Chaos to Success! 5 Years Off-Grid & Our Biggest Lesson Yet ⚡🎤
5 Years Off-Grid: Solar Troubles, Triumphs & Celebration at Ka-Hoon Campground 🌞🎤
Today marks **five incredible years** of living off-grid on our land — October 18th, 2020! To celebrate, we’re hosting a special **Open Mic Night** at **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center**, livestreamed at **6 PM MDT** on our **Colquhoun Entertainment TikTok profile**.
In honor of our anniversary, we’re opening the **vault** once again with **Part 2 of our 8k solar build** — a real story of challenges, lessons, and victory.
During the build, we ran into major issues when **two solar controllers stopped working**. At first, we thought we’d done something wrong, but after bringing in a **certified solar technician**, we discovered that **everything was wired correctly**.
The real culprit? The **manufacturer had wired the combiner box backwards**, which caused it to **feed back into the controllers**, burning them out! Thankfully, **Shop Solar Kits** stood behind their products, sending us a **new combiner box and controller** and even covering the **technician’s cost**.
Once everything was replaced, the system ran perfectly — finally bringing power to our **Greenroom and Music Studio**, and temporarily powering our **RV** until the 5k solar setup is complete.
This project is a reminder that **living off-grid isn’t always easy**, but every challenge makes the reward that much brighter. Come celebrate our 5-year milestone — **music, laughter, and community under the desert sky.**

First Snow in the Desert! Off-Grid Life Takes a Chilly Turn ❄️
Our First Snow on the Land – A Touch of Minnesota in the Desert
Our first snow here on the land brought back memories of Minnesota — the beauty, the quiet, and that familiar winter chill. While we don’t miss the extreme cold or the long months of snow from back home, this short visit from winter gave us a moment to pause and enjoy the peacefulness it brings.
Living off-grid in the desert, snow is rare but magical when it happens. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come — from Minnesota winters to off-grid living in New Mexico. Even when challenges arise, moments like these remind us why we love this life.
***In honor of our 5th anniversary on Saturday, October 18th, we’ll be hosting an Open Mic Night!***
Come celebrate with us — join in person, stay a few hours, camp for the night (or longer!), or tune in live on our **Colquhoun Entertainment TikTok profile**.

Caught on Camera! Our First Off-Grid Intruder at Ka-Hoon Campground 😱
Caught on Camera: Our First Months Off-Grid and an Unexpected Visitor!
When we first moved to the desert, every day was a new challenge — and a lesson in staying prepared. During our early months at **Plateau Hame de Colquhoun (Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center)**, we installed a security camera before heading into town, knowing that trips weren’t quick and our belongings were left vulnerable.
Not long after, that camera paid off. We caught a visitor on video trying to walk off with something that didn’t belong to them! Thankfully, we had chained the axles of our trailer, and it was empty at the time — that same trailer later became what we now call **The Hut**, our compost toilet.
It was one of those off-grid moments that reminds you why preparation matters. Every experience — even the tough ones — helped shape who we are today.
Now, as we celebrate **five years off-grid**, we invite you to join us for our **5th Anniversary Open Mic Night** on **Saturday, October 18th**. Come in person, stay for a night or a weekend, or tune in live from home on our **Colquhoun Entertainment TikTok** profile.
Life off-grid isn’t always easy — but every story, every lesson, and every bit of resilience makes it worth it.
