Today we’re going live again with *Music in the Desert*, a weekly solar-powered broadcast from our off-grid homestead in the New Mexico desert. No venue, no grid power — just sunlight, batteries, storytelling, and music.
Hosted by Advocatus Diaboli & Melodious, the show blends singing, parody songs, originals, covers, and unexpected moments that only happen when you’re broadcasting from the middle of nowhere. Sometimes wildlife even wanders past the cameras.
We stream free so anyone can watch from home.

Fox Walks Past Our Camera During the Super Bowl | Music in the Desert Returns Tomorrow Live!
A Little Visitor During the Big Game + Music in the Desert Returns
Last night while we were watching the Super Bowl (and honestly — one of the best halftime shows in a while!), something more interesting happened here in the desert.
The cameras suddenly went quiet… and then our security camera caught movement along the road.
A small fox casually walked by like he owned the place.
He wasn’t scared, wasn’t rushed — just traveling the desert road minding his business. Then he actually paused, looked straight toward the camera, and for a moment it felt like he stopped to say hello before continuing on his way into the night.
Out here at **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center**, moments like this are part of daily life. Living off-grid means you don’t just share the land with people — you share it with wildlife too. Nights can be quiet, but they are never empty.

What Makes Music in the Desert Different?
This isn’t a polished studio concert.
It’s real. It’s raw. And sometimes it’s unpredictable.
Broadcast from an off-grid homestead powered by solar energy, the show blends:
* Live performance
* Animatronic band members
* Original songs
* Covers & parody
* Storytelling and atmosphere
* Desert sunsets and night skies
The performances feature **Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band** — a unique musical act where theatrical presentation meets musicianship and a bit of theatrical chaos.
You’re not just watching a concert…
You’re stepping into an experience.
—
Free Livestream
You can watch **completely free** from home on:
**YouTube & TikTok — Colquhoun Entertainment**
No tickets required.
No travel.
No camping gear.
Just open the stream and join the community.
—
When It Streams
**Music in the Desert streams every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.**
Showtime is **dependent on weather and solar energy** — since the entire production runs off sunlight and available daylight hours, start times may vary slightly.
(That’s the reality of true off-grid entertainment!)

Why We Do This
Music in the Desert exists to prove something simple:
You don’t need a big stage, a giant city, or corporate backing to create art.
Sometimes all you need is:
* a dream
* some solar panels
* a little madness
* and people willing to watch.
Whether you’re a long-time supporter or discovering it for the first time, you’re invited to join the show and become part of the community that makes it possible.
So grab a drink, sit back, and experience live music from one of the most unusual venues you’ll ever see.

5 Years Ago I Got a Puppy… I Had No Idea He’d Become My Protector
The Best Birthday Gift I Ever Received — 5 Years Ago Today
Five years ago today I got the best birthday gift I’ve ever had.
A puppy.
We named him **Dreugan**.
He was small, clumsy, and full of opinions from the very beginning — and I’m pretty sure he believed he owned me within the first 10 minutes.
Fast-forward to now and he still does.
Dreugan has:
* escaped more times than I can count
* broken my finger
* dragged me across a road
* accidentally bitten me during play
* and worried me half to death on several occasions
And yet… he is still my boy.
My shadow.
My alarm system.
My protector.
Out here living off-grid, animals aren’t just pets. They become part of your daily survival, your routine, and honestly your emotional grounding. He watches everything, notices everything, and somehow always knows before I do when something isn’t right.
He may be chaos on four legs — but he’s loyal chaos.
Looking back at the “then” pictures and comparing them to now, it’s hard to believe how fast five years went by. Puppies grow up, but the bond doesn’t change.
If anything… it gets stronger.
Take a look at how far Dreugan has come.

What Is Music in the Desert?
Music in the Desert isn’t a stage show.
It’s not a bar gig.
It’s not a club.
It’s an atmosphere.
It’s what happens when art, storytelling, and live performance meet the quiet of the desert. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes strange, sometimes serious — but it’s always real.
No crowds.
No noise.
Just sound carried by open sky.

Come Celebrate With Us
This one is a little different — because it doubles as a birthday celebration. Instead of gifts, we just want listeners, conversation, and people willing to hang out for a while.

Security Camera Caught a Mysterious Desert Animal at Our Off-Grid Campground Last Night
A Quiet Visitor Passed Through the Campground Last Night
One of the things about living off-grid is you eventually realize…
We’re not the only ones who live here.
Last night our security cameras recorded a small nighttime visitor calmly wandering through the campground. No panic, no mess, no interest in anything we had — just a peaceful stroll across the property like it had somewhere important to be.
From the shape, ears, and long tail, it *looks* like it may be a fox — but we aren’t wildlife experts. If anyone familiar with desert animals recognizes the species, feel free to let us know what you think.
Whatever it was, the little traveler appeared healthy, relaxed, and completely at home in the desert.
Honestly… probably one of the most polite guests we’ve ever had.
—
Sharing Space With the Real Residents
People sometimes imagine desert living as empty.
It isn’t.
It’s just quieter — and the neighbors don’t knock.
We see tracks in the mornings, hear distant calls at night, and every once in a while the cameras show us who actually lives here full-time. Moments like this are a reminder that we didn’t create this place. We simply settled into it.
We don’t chase wildlife.
We don’t feed wildlife.
We don’t disturb wildlife.
We just observe and respect.
Out here, coexistence matters more than ownership.
—
The Desert and the Music
Experiences like this are part of why we created **Music in the Desert** in the first place.
The land, the stillness, the stars, and the unexpected moments all shape the atmosphere of what we do.
Sometimes the audience is people listening to the music.
Sometimes… it’s whoever quietly passes through under the night sky.

I Planned My Own Surprise Birthday Party in the Desert (Live Music Survival Edition)
I Planned My Own Surprise Birthday Party (It’s a Survival Skill)
Let’s just address the elephant in the desert right now…
Yes.
I planned my own **surprise birthday party**.
No.
I regret nothing.
When you live off-grid in the desert, you learn two things real fast:
1. Survival is optional, preparation is not.
2. If you want a good party, sometimes you *are* the surprise.
So welcome to **Music in the Desert**, where the only people who *didn’t* know it was my birthday were… well… everyone else. 🎂🌵

Why Plan Your Own Surprise Party?
Because:
* You control the music
* You control the vibe
* You know who’s showing up
* And cake tastes better when there’s live music
Also, let’s be honest — this isn’t a *birthday party*.
It’s a **survival party**.
We’ve survived heat, dust, off-grid chaos, creative madness, and the general weirdness of being unapologetically different. That deserves music. Loud, honest, desert-born music.

Off-Grid. Livestreamed. Still Creating — Music in the Desert
Creating Through Change: Why We Keep Making Music and Hosting Events
In a world obsessed with numbers — views, ticket sales, profit, and constant noise — it can be difficult to explain why some of us keep creating anyway.
We live off-grid in the New Mexico desert. Life out here is quiet, demanding, and honest. You work because you must. You create because something inside you refuses to go silent. Survival has very little to do with money, politics, or religion — and everything to do with resilience, purpose, and community.
For us, music and events are not about chasing attention. They are about **connection**.
Joy Is the Measure, Not the Noise
My joy comes from seeing others happy because of something I helped create — campers feeling welcome, people settling in to listen, or an audience connecting with a performance.
Our livestreams have become a real source of that joy.
Attendance has been growing steadily. Many people listen quietly, fully present, faces focused on the music. Others reach out afterward to tell us how much the show meant to them. Some even arrange their schedules around the livestreams so they don’t miss them.
That kind of connection matters deeply.
Not every audience is loud. Some are listening — and that’s just as powerful.
Creating Through Adaptation
My partner is a writer and a creator. He builds worlds with words and emotion. He knows what a piece should feel like — the weight, the atmosphere, the message — even when the path to bringing it to life looks different than it once did.
What matters is not *how* something is created, but **who is creating it**.
The vision is still his.
The words are still his.
The intention is still his.
Adaptation doesn’t diminish creativity. It proves devotion to it.
Showing Up, Even When It’s Quiet
Livestreaming allows us to reach people we wouldn’t otherwise meet — people who listen from their homes, their workspaces, or quiet corners of their lives. Without it, we wouldn’t have this connection at all.
These moments — the listening, the messages afterward, the shared experience — are what remind us why we keep going.
Creation doesn’t need to shout to be meaningful.
Why We Keep Going
We believe people should be able to live in ways that make sense for them, adapt without being judged, and create without needing permission.
We don’t do this for money.
We don’t do this for politics.
We don’t do this for religion.
We do this because being human means creating, connecting, and caring — even when it’s quiet, even when it’s unconventional, even when the world isn’t watching.
And for those who have found us through the livestreams: thank you for being there, for listening, and for sharing this space with us.
We’ll be back in venues near you playing the show again — and **Music in the Desert livestreams will be returning soon**.
We’re still here.
We’re still creating.
And we’re grateful you are too.
