Supporting Ka-Hoon Campground: Ways to Help
Lately, we’ve received a few emails asking if we would set up a CashApp, Venmo, or even an Amazon Wishlist for donations. While we truly appreciate the thought, we’ve always been independent and prefer to earn our way. However, we understand that some of you genuinely want to support us, so we’ve been brainstorming ways to make that possible while staying true to our values.
We know times are tough for many, and uncertainty is everywhere. If you’d like to support us but can’t camp, attend an event, or visit in person, we suggest sponsoring a membership. This not only helps us but also provides an opportunity for someone else—a family or individual—to have a safe place to set up their homestead or simply enjoy a space where they can be themselves.
As for the Amazon Wishlist, we’re not sure what we’d include. Would campers and members benefit from extra tents, cooking supplies, or maybe some essentials for the dogs? Our storage space is limited, so we’d love input on what might actually be useful.
We’re not wealthy—funds are always tight—but we’ve built everything we have through hard work and determination. We’ve occasionally received small donations from campers, which we see as tips for the experience we provide, and we’re completely okay with that. However, we don’t feel comfortable simply accepting money or gifts without giving something in return.
If you truly want to help but can’t visit, the best ways to support us are:
✔️ Sponsor a membership to help others access our space.
✔️ Share our website and videos to help more people find us.
If you think we should create an Amazon Wishlist, let us know what items would be most useful! One camper donated some ready-to-eat meals (REMs), which we’ve shared with campers and community members—and, admittedly, enjoyed ourselves!
Your support, in any form, means the world to us. Thank you for being part of our journey!

Campfire Laughs & TikTok Live Gone Wrong – Anne’s Lawn Chair Fail at Ka-Hoon Campground!
**A Beautiful Day at Ka-Hoon Campground: Fires, Fun, and TikTok Live**
Today was one of those perfect desert days—warm, peaceful, and full of unexpected laughs. While Brent was off helping a neighbor, Anne and I took the time to relax, enjoy the fresh air, and have a fire. We even hopped on TikTok Live for a short stream to share the moment with our online community.
Of course, no day is complete without a little bit of chaos. In the middle of our live, Anne managed to flip over in a lawn chair that hadn’t been properly secured open. I couldn’t help but burst into laughter—so much that I wasn’t even sure I could help her up! Moments like these remind us why we love this lifestyle—simple joys, good company, and the ability to laugh at ourselves.
We’ll be doing more TikTok Lives soon, so make sure to follow us for real, unfiltered glimpses into life at Ka-Hoon Campground!

Creative Desert Life: Advocatus Diaboli Live, Flora Hamlet Art & Handmade Creations at Ka-Hoon!
**Life at Ka-Hoon Campground: Art, Music, and Creativity in the Desert**
It’s been a quiet stretch here at Ka-Hoon Campground, but the warming days have given us the opportunity to tackle a few outdoor chores and enjoy some fresh air. While not much has been happening to report on, we’re still keeping busy in our own creative ways.
Brent has been hard at work with Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band, preparing for more live performances on TikTok. These animatronic-driven shows are always a hit, and we’re excited to bring them back to our online audience soon!
Meanwhile, I’ve been revisiting a personal project I started back in Ruidoso: my *Flora Hamlet Project*. It’s a leather-bound art book filled with intricate drawings inspired by nature, particularly flowers. Each flower becomes a character, and their vines symbolize arms and legs, connecting them to one another—a visual representation of how everything and everyone is interconnected. It’s been a while since I’ve drawn, so it’s taken me some time to get back into the groove, but it’s been rewarding to see the project come back to life.
For those interested, prints from the *Flora Hamlet Project* are available at the Dusty Nail General Store, alongside my crocheted creations like gnomes, mushrooms, hats, and stuffed animals. Some of these crochet pieces are also sold at the merch table during Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band’s performances.
Anne has been equally busy juggling work, rehearsals, and spending time with her boyfriend, making the most of each day.
While things may feel slower at times, we’re always finding ways to stay creative and share our work with others. Follow along for updates on live performances, art projects, and all things Ka-Hoon Campground!

Live Studio Sessions: Advocatus Diaboli Brings Animatronic Magic to TikTok & YouTube!
**Studio Sessions with Advocatus Diaboli: Live on TikTok and YouTube**
We’ve finally been able to get back into the studio! The cold weather and the need to conserve propane made it challenging, but last night we powered up the generator and spent an amazing evening in the studio. Advocatus Diaboli performed live on TikTok and YouTube, bringing their unique energy to the virtual stage.
We’re excited to do this more often, weather permitting! You’ll be able to catch Advocatus Diaboli—and occasionally Shamshini—performing live on TikTok through Ka-Hoon Campground. While we haven’t set a regular schedule yet, we’re working around weather, solar power, and the occasional use of the generator.
Last night, we attempted to record the show, but unfortunately, there was an issue with the mic settings, resulting in an echo. We’ll make sure to capture better recordings during the next live performance!

Haunted Memories: Paranormal Experiences in the Desert and Beyond
**Haunted Memories: Paranormal Experiences in the Desert and Beyond**
Living in a remote desert area where no one has lived before, you wouldn’t expect to encounter paranormal activity—but strangely enough, we’ve experienced it. You can catch some of our stories on our *Mysteries of the West Mesa* series, where we document the unexplained events we’ve encountered. However, today I want to share more about the eerie happenings from my childhood home—a place that seems to hold onto its secrets long after we moved away.
Growing up in rural Central Minnesota, our family lived on an old farmstead that seemed alive with unexplained activity. Objects would frequently disappear, only to reappear minutes later in places we’d already checked. It wasn’t uncommon to see someone standing in the upstairs windows while we were outside, even though no one was inside the house.
The barn, which had caved in before we moved there, seemed to carry its own energy. We reused some of the old barn wood to rebuild a new one and make repairs around the house. But it was the new barn that became a hotspot for activity.
I vividly remember one evening when my mom was finishing up milking. She’d asked me to load the dishwasher, but being a typical teenager, I procrastinated. The house was about 200 feet from the barn, with the well house in between. While I was checking to see if my mom was in the milk house, I saw what looked like a man running from the barn toward the well house. As quickly as he appeared, he vanished.
To this day, I can still picture the figure in my mind. I didn’t tell my parents about what I’d seen until years later, after we’d moved off the farm. When I finally shared my story, I was shocked to learn I wasn’t alone—my siblings had also seen the same male apparition.
We left the farm in 1992, but the house hasn’t left us. Over the years, I’ve had countless dreams of the house calling me back, almost as if it’s trying to reach out. What’s even stranger is that my parents and siblings have had similar dreams. It’s as though the house still holds a part of us, whispering for our return.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we went back. Would the spirits still be there? Would the house still feel alive? Or would we find peace in finally facing the past?

Haunting Memories: Life in a Central Minnesota Farmhouse
We lived alongside the unexplained, finding peace amidst the paranormal.
Let me take you back to the late 1970s, to a remote corner of Central Minnesota where my childhood home stood. Tucked away down two miles of dirt roads and 14 miles from the nearest small town, this house was isolated, weathered, and steeped in mystery.
When we moved in, the house had been abandoned for at least a decade. There was no plumbing, and the yard was so overgrown that the weeds reached the windows. An old two-seater outhouse stood at the yard’s edge, a relic of another time. My family spent countless hours restoring the house: hand-digging water lines, converting an old bedroom into a bathroom, and rebuilding the barn into a functional dairy barn.
But the history of the house was as wild as its surroundings. Built by two bachelor brothers, the property carried a dark story—one brother, it was rumored, died on the property after being kicked in the head by a horse. Locals whispered about hauntings and refused to set foot near the house.
For us, those whispers became reality. Over the 13 years we lived there, we encountered countless unexplainable events.
—
### Encounters with the Unseen
One of the most vivid memories involved a family friend. He had briefly lived in the house years before but moved out due to violent experiences. During a visit, he went to use the bathroom, and as he exited, a cup flew from behind him, striking him on the head. The source of the cup was a mystery—it wasn’t stored in the bathroom, and the dishwasher was usually rolled into the kitchen.
Another time, I was having a slumber party with my best friends, Nikki and Sharla. As we sat on my bed laughing with the bedroom door open, the door suddenly slammed shut and locked itself. My friends were terrified and left immediately, cutting the party short.
—
### Voices in the Night
Noises were a common occurrence. Footsteps echoed through the house at night, so often that my older brother decided to record while we slept. On one recording, he captured not only footsteps but also the faint sound of two men conversing—though no one else was awake.
—
### A Helping Hand?
One of the eeriest moments came one evening while tending to the dairy farm. My mom asked me to open a newly fixed gate outside the barn. I struggled with the latch until I heard what I thought was my dad explaining how to open it. Grateful, I turned to thank him, but no one was there. When I went inside to tell my mom, she informed me my dad was still at work.

### Living with the Unknown
While some locals warned of danger, we never felt threatened by the strange happenings. The unexplained became part of our daily lives, and we grew accustomed to the eerie sounds, objects moving, and uninvited whispers in the dark.
After we moved out, another family tried to make a life there but left, claiming the hauntings were unbearable.
This house remains a piece of my past, filled with both the hard work of rebuilding a home and the spine-tingling memories of living alongside the unexplained.

Living Off-Grid: Peace, Beauty, and the Occasional Challenge
**Living Off-Grid: Peace, Beauty, and the Occasional Challenge**
Life off-grid in the desert is a unique blend of serenity and vigilance. The views are breathtaking, the quiet is restorative, and the freedom to live authentically is unparalleled. Yet, challenges arise when others misinterpret a laid-back, open-hearted lifestyle as an invitation to take advantage.
At Ka-Hoon Campground, we pride ourselves on being welcoming and helpful. We respect others’ individuality and value mutual respect in return. But make no mistake—our kindness should never be mistaken for weakness. We stand firm in our beliefs, protect our hard-earned achievements, and fiercely guard our friends, family, and community.
In recent days, unsettling incidents have reminded us of the need for vigilance. Unknown individuals have been observed suspiciously loitering near our property. While it’s not uncommon for travelers to pass through, these behaviors raise red flags—stopping repeatedly, backing into driveways with clear “Private Property” signs, and speeding off when approached.
We understand mistakes happen—people get lost or need directions. If these individuals meant no harm, we’re prepared to extend our apologies for any misunderstanding. However, speeding off when approached or repeatedly stopping in private areas suggests otherwise.
To those visiting or passing by, we welcome friendly conversation or requests for assistance. A simple knock on the door or a polite wave goes a long way. Respect us, and we’ll gladly reciprocate. Disrespect us, however, and we will not back down.
Living off-grid teaches resilience, and we hold tight to the values of self-reliance, protection, and respect. Let this serve as a reminder: the desert may be peaceful, but those who live here know how to stand their ground.

Enduring the January Winds at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center
Enduring the January Winds at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center
As the winds of January sweep across the desert, we find ourselves in the midst of their biting embrace at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center. The air is sharp, and the gusts carry the whisper of distant storms, reminding us of the ever-changing nature of the world around us. Yet, even in the face of these fierce winds, there is a beauty to be found in their power, a testament to the strength and resilience of nature.
At Ka-Hoon, we are no strangers to the elements. The winds may howl, but they cannot deter us from creating a space where individuals may come together and experience the desert’s wonders. We stand firm, embracing both the challenges and the magnificence that each new day brings.
Though the January winds may make the days colder and the nights longer, they also remind us of the warmth found in community, the strength that comes from perseverance, and the importance of creating a place to call home—even in the midst of a storm.
Let the winds of January pass, for in their wake, we shall find clearer skies and calmer days.

A Sanctuary of Acceptance Amidst Life’s Tumult: Ka-Hoon Campground
A Sanctuary of Acceptance Amidst Life’s Tumult: Ka-Hoon Campground
In this ever-changing world, where society’s tide ebbs and flows with unceasing vigor, there arises a longing within the hearts of many—a yearning for a haven where one may shed the masks demanded by the world and simply *be*. At Ka-Hoon Campground, we endeavor to provide such a sanctuary, a place where the spirit may roam freely, unshackled by the judgments of the outside realm.
Yet, let it be known, no place, however noble, can shield one entirely from the trials of life. Drama, like the tempest, is an inevitable part of existence. It is born of broken tools, frayed tempers, or the cruel hand of misfortune itself. It sweeps through, leaving its mark upon the heart.
At Ka-Hoon, we do not promise a life free of these storms—for to do so would be folly. Rather, we strive to foster a space where such tempests may be weathered in the company of kindred souls. Here, amidst the desert’s embrace, one finds not perfection but the freedom to face life’s challenges authentically and without fear of reproach.
Life is unpredictable, but within its chaos lies a certain beauty. At Ka-Hoon Campground, we invite you to embrace that beauty, to discover solace, camaraderie, and the joy of simply being true to yourself.
**Come, and be welcomed as you are.**
