A Crawly Encounter at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center
Yesterday, as we enjoyed a cool evening and visited with a neighbor, we had an unexpected visitor—a tarantula, out on the hunt. Just the night before, another neighbor had a similar encounter when a tarantula crawled onto her leg. Though usually comfortable with these eight-legged guests, the surprise startled her.
This year, we’ve seen more tarantulas than ever before. Is this an omen or a sign of a thriving ecosystem? We’ve also noticed an abundance of dragonflies, which we know are indicator species and a positive sign for our area. But what about tarantulas?
Do these arachnid visitors suggest our environment is flourishing? We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with our eight-legged neighbors.

Join us this coming Saturday, July 13th, for the Music in the Desert Talent Show and Karaoke. It’s free to attend, and camping is just $12.00 for up to 5 people per campsite. BYOB and 420-friendly.
** NM Hootenanny **
Make sure to register for the 4-day Halloween Hootenanny in October to reserve your spot. Come for one day or all days! We have live music, camping, a Campsite Creepy Crawl, campsite decorating, trick-or-treating through the sites, a costume contest, a costume parade scavenger hunt, bonfires, and more!

Today is day 2 of our 4th July Celebration on the 6th here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, and we have a fantastic lineup for you! The gates are open all day, so come and join the fun.
**Event Highlights:**
– **Live Music:** Enjoy live performances by Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band tonight.
– **Anime Movie:** After dark, an anime movie will be playing in the Cahoots Courtyard.
– **Bonfires:** Warm up by the fire with bonfires inside the Cahoots Courtyard and outside at the Hearth communal firepit.
– **Camping:** Secure your spot and camp under the stars.
**Important Information:**
– This is a BYOB and 420-friendly event. However, no alcohol or 420 consumption is allowed within the Cahoots Courtyard.
– Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs for comfortable seating.

The festivities have officially begun at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, and what a magical night it is! The anime is playing, the air is filled with excitement, and the New Mexico sky is putting on its own show.
**Anime Under the Stars**
In the Cahoots Courtyard, families and friends have gathered to enjoy anime screenings. The potluck snack bar is bustling, with everyone sharing their favorite treats. The atmosphere is lively, yet serene, as we come together to celebrate under the vast desert sky.
**Nature’s Fireworks**
As if on cue, Mother Nature has joined our celebration with a spectacular lightning show over the Manzano Mountains. The natural fireworks add an extra layer of wonder to our night, making this first evening of our celebration truly unforgettable.

4th of July Celebration at KaHoon Campground: BBQ, Fireworks, and Live Music!
4th of July Festivities at Ka-Hoon Campground
Yesterday, we hosted a fantastic community BBQ to celebrate the 4th of July. After enjoying some delicious food, we headed to the northern edge of the Mesa to catch a spectacular view of the fireworks. From this vantage point, we could see fireworks being launched in Los Lunas and Albuquerque, as well as smaller displays in Belen and Bosque.
Belen had already held their fireworks show last Saturday, so the crowd was smaller than last year, which made for a more relaxed experience. As we returned home, we were treated to a stunning natural light show as Mother Nature lit up the sky with her own fireworks over the Manzano Mountains.
Today, we’re gearing up for our 2-day 4th of July Celebration here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center. We can’t wait to continue the festivities with all of you!

Navigating Monsoon Season in the New Mexico Desert
Living in the New Mexico desert has its unique challenges, especially during monsoon season. Today was a prime example as we had to head out for water, showers, and a few groceries, all while trying to beat the next wave of storms.
The muddy roads made the trip especially slow, but we knew waiting for more rain would make them even worse. As we made our way back home, we saw a cluster of police lights. Approaching the scene, we discovered a pickup had rolled into a ditch. Our hearts sank when we realized it was someone we knew, a member of our community. Fortunately, he wasn’t hurt, and we were able to give him a ride home.
This experience was a stark reminder of the difficulties we face living here, but also of the strong community spirit that helps us get through these challenges together.
