Life Off-Grid, Stroke Recovery, Pituitary Macroadenoma, Health Journey, Sunsets & Hope

Life Off-Grid Isn’t Always Easy

Sorry we’ve been a little quieter lately. Even our morning off-grid campfire chats — where we share experiences and try to help others considering this lifestyle — have been harder for me to keep up with. And I truly love helping people.

Off-grid life is raw, real, and full of lessons. It isn’t always easy, but it teaches resilience, patience, and the importance of community.

Brent’s Stroke Recovery and Our Journey

Many of you know that a year ago, Brent (Advocatus Diaboli) suffered a cluster of strokes. It’s been a long road back, but he’s doing it — and I couldn’t love him more.

His recovery has taught us the value of perseverance, hope, and celebrating small victories in life, especially while living off-grid.

My Health Struggles: Pituitary Macroadenoma

Recently, I’ve been experiencing intense headaches and eye pain. Doctors initially suspected trigeminal neuralgia and sent me to a neurologist. While the MRI didn’t show much for the nerve, it revealed a pituitary macroadenoma, a tumor on the pituitary gland.

About 90% of pituitary macroadenomas are benign, but they can still affect hormone function. This discovery led to more bloodwork, a referral to an endocrinologist, and additional testing. So far, results indicate my immune system may be attacking my thyroid, and my pituitary gland

Upcoming Tests and What They Mean

This week, I have a more detailed pituitary MRI and a thyroid ultrasound. After these tests, we’ll better understand my treatment plan. While the waiting is stressful, everything we know so far is treatable. Surgery may be necessary, but it is not overly invasive, according to doctors.

Life Lessons: Truthfulness and Positivity

I am not seeking attention — I’m trying to be truthful. Life off-grid isn’t easy. We don’t sugarcoat our experiences. We all face trauma, health issues, and personal struggles. Living off-grid doesn’t exempt us from that reality.

In a world full of negativity, we aim to offer a space of positivity — a place where you can be yourself. We don’t judge your sexuality, religion, or political views. Your life is yours to live.

We share more in our lives than on social media, and our goal is to help others while helping ourselves. These are just hurdles we have to jump (without breaking a leg, as I can’t jump 😅).

Finding Peace: Sunsets and Perspective

When life throws you a curveball, stop, take a breath, watch the sunset, and enjoy the moment. These reflective pauses help us find clarity and peace, even in the midst of health challenges and uncertainty.

We continue forward. We’re here if you need support, have questions, are looking for a place, or just want someone to talk to — or listen to our music.

Before all this, I had only heard the word “pituitary.” I had no idea how much it controls in the body.

Today, I’m sharing a peaceful desert sunset — a small reminder that while life can be serious, there is still beauty, hope, and resilience.

Finding Hope in Life’s Storms: Embrace Strength and Light Even When Times Are Tough!

Illuminating Hope Amidst the Tempest: Embracing Fortitude When Shadows Linger

Life, much like the untamed wilderness of the desert, tests the spirit with its trials. The wind howls, laden with grains of sand that sting and obscure the path. The chill of evening descends as the days dwindle in light, leaving the weary soul longing for warmth. Yet, even amidst this relentless adversity, glimmers of hope illuminate the horizon.

In such moments, one must pause and call to mind the virtues that endure—the steadfast truths that anchor us. You are cherished beyond measure, a vessel of unique gifts and unwavering resolve. Your talents shine brightly, even when obscured by the tempest’s veil.

Amid hardship, solace can be found in humble triumphs: the warmth of a steaming cup in the morning’s frost, a kind gesture from a trusted companion, or the quiet fulfillment of crafting something noble and true. These fragments of joy remind us that no storm holds dominion forever.

As we journey through life’s trials—be it the chill winds of the wilderness or the burdens of the heart—let us embrace the light within. For even in the darkest hours, beauty and hope await those who dare to seek them.

You are mightier than you know. Persist in courage, for the dawn shall surely break.

Embracing Open-Minded Living: Our Journey Through Judgment and Finding True Community

In the journey of life, being true to who you are often means standing apart from the crowd. For us, that has come with both challenges and revelations. Our open-mindedness, our willingness to embrace what others might find unconventional, has been met with judgment, false accusations, and sadly, the loss of friendships we once cherished.

We’ve faced harsh words and baseless claims, accusations of things we never did. The pain of being taken to court over our way of life—only for the case to be dropped when the truth came to light—was profound. Yet, the scars from that experience run deep, not just because of the legal battle, but because of the damage done to our reputation and the relationships that crumbled under the weight of lies.

It was heart-wrenching to see people who once stood beside us, selling their goods at our events and sharing our space, turn away. These were people we thought supported us, who we considered friends. But when faced with rumors and accusations, they chose to believe the worst rather than stand by us. It’s a harsh reminder of how quickly things can change when people judge what they don’t understand.

Yet, amid the pain, we’ve also found something beautiful. Through this ordeal, we discovered friends who became more like family. These are the people who saw the truth, who stood by us when others turned their backs. Their support has been a beacon of hope in a time that felt overwhelmingly dark.

Just a few months ago, we encountered someone who, despite their friendly demeanor, was clearly fishing for dirt. Their comments and questions—like suggesting we sell alcohol or 420 during events—were meant to trap us. But instead of reacting with anger or suspicion, we welcomed them. We invited them to sit with us and a visiting neighbor, treating them with kindness and openness, even though we knew their intentions were far from pure. We’ve never done anything close to what they implied, and the most we’ve ever done was offer someone a ride to town so they could make their own purchases.

We are who we are—open-minded, a bit outside the norm, and unafraid to embrace what we love, even if it might seem unconventional to others. In college, I was often criticized for thinking outside the box, for refusing to conform to what others expected. But I’ve found that being true to myself is more important than fitting into someone else’s idea of what is normal.

You don’t have to fit inside the box society has made for you. You need to do what is best for you, even if it means facing judgment or criticism. The key is to be as truthful as possible. We all have secrets, and we all have skeletons in our closets. What matters is how you handle them. For us, it meant facing unfounded accusations and the judgment of others, but ultimately standing tall in our truth.

Respecting others and letting them be who they are is crucial. But it’s equally important to protect yourself. You can be respectful and kind while still keeping those who might harm you at a distance.

Our story is one of resilience, of holding onto our truth in the face of adversity, and of finding strength in the support of those who truly care. We’ve learned that while some may judge us for being different, there are others who will see us for who we truly are and stand by our side.

Embrace Diversity at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center

We have once again encountered claims against us, specifically that we are satanic. To clarify, we are neither religious nor satanic. We are spiritual and believe in protecting and living harmoniously with nature. We embrace our differences and believe everyone should be allowed to be themselves.

Our belief is in allowing people to enjoy life, regardless of their beliefs, sexuality, or political choices. We respect everyone for being who they are.

We enjoy laughing, talking, and being ourselves, and we welcome everyone. Unfortunately, this sometimes causes issues for others.

Our space is designed for everyone to come and safely be themselves, free from judgment and ridicule. If some locals interpret this as something negative, it is a sad reflection on the broader community.

Embracing Imperfection: A Path to Personal Growth

Embracing Imperfection: A Path to Personal Growth

In a world that often emphasizes perfection, it’s easy to forget the beauty and value of imperfection. Our flaws, mistakes, and shortcomings are not weaknesses to be ashamed of, but rather integral parts of what makes us human. Embracing imperfection is not about settling for less; it’s about accepting ourselves fully and allowing room for growth and authenticity.

Each of us carries a unique set of imperfections that shape our identities and experiences. These imperfections can manifest in various forms – physical, emotional, intellectual, or social. Instead of viewing them as obstacles to overcome, we can choose to see them as opportunities for self-discovery and acceptance.

One of the most profound lessons we can learn from embracing imperfection is the importance of resilience. When we acknowledge and embrace our mistakes, failures, and shortcomings, we develop resilience – the ability to bounce back from setbacks and adversity. Rather than being discouraged by our imperfections, we learn to adapt, persevere, and grow stronger in the face of challenges.

Moreover, embracing imperfection fosters empathy and understanding towards others. When we recognize our own flaws and vulnerabilities, we become more compassionate towards the imperfections of others. We understand that everyone is on their own journey, facing their own struggles and insecurities.

Embracing imperfection does not mean complacency or resignation. It’s about striving for progress, not perfection. It’s about acknowledging that growth is a continuous process, and that setbacks and failures are inevitable along the way. By embracing our imperfections, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities for growth.

In a society that often values superficial perfection, it takes courage to embrace our flaws and vulnerabilities openly. However, it’s precisely these imperfections that make us unique, authentic, and relatable. Let us celebrate our imperfections, for they are the threads that weave together the rich tapestry of our lives. As we embrace our imperfections, we embark on a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and compassion – a journey towards becoming the best versions of ourselves.

Embracing Challenges: Life Off-Grid at Ka-hoon Campground and Event Center in the New Mexico Desert

Living off-grid in the New Mexico desert at Ka-hoon Campground and Event Center presents its own unique set of challenges. When we first arrived, the isolation was palpable – we were alone, unfamiliar with the area, and lacked local support. Sparse neighbors were rarely home, leaving us feeling vulnerable in our solitude.

However, amidst the vast desert landscape, our greatest challenge wasn’t the elements themselves, but rather the human element. It was here, in this remote setting, that I experienced profound personal growth. I learned to assert myself and protect my family in ways I never imagined.

Living off-grid in the desert has been a transformative journey, teaching me resilience, self-reliance, and the importance of standing up for what matters most. Though the challenges have been daunting, the lessons learned have been invaluable, shaping me into a stronger and more capable individual than ever before.
