The Dusty Nail General Store, like many other establishments, faces the relentless force of nature on a daily basis. In this blog post, we’ll delve into our recent experience with the windy desert conditions and share insights on how we tackled the issue to ensure the safety and stability of our store.

Picture this: another windy desert day, with gusts strong enough to unsettle even the most securely anchored structures. Despite our best efforts to secure the Dusty Nail General Store, the relentless force of the wind proved to be a formidable opponent. The cattle, roaming through the area, unwittingly caused a disruption by breaking one of the tie-downs, allowing the store to shift and making it impossible to latch the door.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, we immediately sprung into action. Our first task was to reposition the store, ensuring that it was better leveled to withstand the force of the wind. By carefully adjusting its placement, we aimed to minimize the impact of the gusts and create a more stable environment for the structure.

Unexpected Encounters: Living Among Free-Range Cattle at Ka-hoon

Living out here on the Ka-Hoon Plateau Hame De Colquhoun  has its unique charms, and one of my favorite aspects is the presence of free-range cattle. These majestic creatures usually keep their distance, but every now and then, they decide to pay us a visit.

Last night was one of those occasions, and it was quite the unexpected encounter. As I hadn’t turned on the motion alarms to keep the cattle away from our buildings and solar panels, one curious cow sauntered right up to our homestead. It seemed she had a particular craving and decided to make a stop at the Dusty Nail General Store   – or at least, that’s what it looked like!

Standing just outside the dog fence, she seemed unfazed by the presence of our vigilant canine companions. With a nonchalant demeanor, she leisurely grazed on the grass, completely indifferent to the curious stares from our furry friends.

It’s moments like these that remind me of the beauty and unpredictability of life out here in the wilderness. Despite the occasional surprises, sharing our space with these gentle giants adds to the charm of our rustic lifestyle. Who knows what other adventures await us in the days to come?

After wrapping up our work in the studio, we stepped outside and noticed that a storm was approaching. We decided to make the most of the situation by heading back home and taking some time to let the dogs out and play with them before the storm arrived. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some quality time with our furry friends while staying safe and dry inside.
