The Rise of Shamshini: The Dragon Spirit Voice of the Desert
In the quiet heart of the New Mexico desert, where the wind carries secrets and the stars shine brighter than anywhere else, a legend is being sung into life.
Her name is **Shamshini** — a voice born from sorrow, strength, and transformation.
Once a mortal girl with a hauntingly beautiful voice, she healed others with her songs even as she carried deep pain inside. Those who knew her remember her singing beneath the vast desert sky, her voice echoing through the canyons. Then, under the glow of a blood moon, she vanished — not lost, but transformed.
Awakening an ancient power within her — a dragon spirit that had always burned quietly beneath the surface — she crossed into a realm between worlds and returned renewed, a guardian for the lost and a light in the darkness.
She never returned alone.
A cloaked figure appears whenever she sings — a mysterious presence wrapped in music and shadows. Their connection runs deep, woven into every duet and echoed in every note. The truth of their bond is never spoken aloud, but those who truly listen find the story hidden in their harmonies. Each song is a chapter — revealing secrets, healing wounds, and weaving a tale of family, loss, and redemption.
At **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center**, where magic meets music, Shamshini and this enigmatic figure create an experience unlike any other — a journey through sound, story, and spirit.
Their show invites you not just to listen, but to uncover the legend as it unfolds.

Rescue Puppy Escapes Everything! You Won’t Believe How Far She’s Come Since That Ditch in Roswell!
Life, Heat, and a Little Hurricane Named Vibria
Between the extreme desert heat, doctor appointments, and just everyday life, it’s been tough finding time to sit down and create a new video update from the Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center. But today, we’ve got a story to share — about one wild, clever, and incredibly determined pup named Vibria.
### Meet Vibria: Our Carolina Dog With Puppy Brain
Vibria, our Carolina dog, is turning one next month — and while she’s growing fast, her puppy energy is still in full force. Her absolute favorite pastime? Tearing up paper. We keep our burnable trash (paper, cardboard, etc.) in a special bin inside, but if Vibria gets near it, there’s guaranteed to be a confetti explosion.
We’ve honestly never gone through so many collars and harnesses in our lives. She *loves* wearing them — throws a little tantrum when she’s not — yet somehow she always manages to chew through them or snap a buckle when we least expect it.
### Escape Artist Extraordinaire
Vibria has earned her title as the campground’s official *Escape Artist*. Despite chicken wire lining the bottom of our fenced yard (because yes, she figured out how to squeeze through), she continues to find creative ways to get out. Whether it’s tearing through the wire, climbing the fence, or digging under it — she’s out the moment you blink.
Strangely, she never tries to run when she’s in the RV or the car. But left alone in the yard for two seconds? She’s off chasing lizards, snacking on cat food, or playing with the campground kitties.
### From Roadside Rescue to Ka-Hoon Family Member
Vibria’s story started on Calhoun Street in Roswell, where she and her two littermates were abandoned in a ditch. A kind-hearted woman rescued them, and after a six-hour round trip, we brought Vibria home. Since then, she’s become a beloved member of our quirky Calhoun family at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center.
From tearing up paper to escaping like a furry Houdini, Vibria keeps us on our toes — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We Live in the Desert—But Nights Like This Make It All Worth It 🌕✨🐾
🌌 Life in the Desert: Night Skies, Cool Air, and Canine Joy
One of the things I absolutely love about living in the desert is the breathtaking view of the night sky. Out here, far from city lights and surrounded by open space, the stars put on a show every night. With little to no light pollution, it’s easy to get lost staring into the cosmos — planets, constellations, and sometimes even meteor showers.
Daytime in the desert is a whole different story. With temperatures climbing well over 100 degrees, we tend to go dormant during the heat of the day, focusing on ways to stay cool and conserve energy. Even the dogs know to take it easy. The sand gets scorching hot, so they usually lounge in the shade or stay indoors until things cool off.
But when the sun goes down? That’s when the magic happens.
As the desert starts to cool, we all come back to life. The dogs race around the yard, tails wagging, chasing shadows and each other. We sit outside, soaking in the cooler air, watching the sky transition from golden sunsets to deep star-filled black. It’s peaceful, grounding, and absolutely beautiful.
**Last night’s view was especially breathtaking.** The mostly full moon lit up the desert, casting soft shadows and adding a silvery glow to everything. It made sitting outside completely worth it — the kind of night that reminds you why you live out here. The stars still sparkled, but that moon stole the show.
Sometimes we go live on TikTok to share this little slice of desert life — the calm, the stars, the moon, and the dogs doing what dogs do best: playing under the night sky.

Desert Floods Can’t Stop the Weird! Muddy July 4th & the Launch of a Booking Agency for Misfits
**Muddy Roads & Musical Oddities: A July 4th Update from the Desert**
We hope everyone had a fun, safe, and meaningful Fourth of July!
Out here in the New Mexico desert, it was a wet and wild one. We got just over an inch of rain, which might not sound like much—until you try to drive 11 miles of dirt roads in it. It was muddy, sloppy, and several sections flooded quickly. One camper transferred their stay, but a few brave souls still made the journey (thank you!). By evening, most of the **bypass routes** around the deep puddles had dried up, and things became much more manageable.
Life off-grid means always being prepared for the unpredictable—and rolling with it when the monsoon season hits.

### Introducing: **Melodie’s Oddities Music Booking**
In other exciting news, I’ve officially launched **Melodie’s Oddities**—a small, independent music booking venture that was born from personal experience and necessity.
As many of you know, we have a very unique act: **Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band**, a darkly humorous live performance blending **animatronics, original songs, parodies, and theatrical storytelling.** It’s weird, wild, and unlike anything else out there.
The challenge? Most traditional booking agents didn’t know what to do with us. If you weren’t country, rock, or something they already understood, they didn’t bite. So after handling all the outreach myself for months—researching venues, building promo materials, and sending emails—I realized something important:
> *Maybe there’s a place for the “too weird” acts. And maybe I could help create it.*
I’m not a full-time agent. I don’t cold call. I’m not a music industry insider. But I *am* someone who saw a gap and decided to fill it. And that’s where **Melodie’s Oddities** began.
Right now, I focus on **email-based venue outreach** and support for artists who don’t fit the usual mold—acts that are **dark, unique, offbeat, or theatrical**, especially those who haven’t found traditional industry support. If that sounds like your band or project, reach out. I may not have all the answers, but I care deeply about helping strange, amazing music find its stage.

### Building Something Different
So while the roads may be muddy out here, we’re still moving forward. Whether it’s launching an odd little booking project, planning upcoming shows for Advocatus Diaboli, or drying out the campground after another monsoon, we’re always building something a little different.
Because out here—weird is welcome.

Advocatus Diaboli Stuns TikTok Live with Haunting “Soldier of Fortune” Performance!
Advocatus Diaboli Delivers Soulful Cover of “Soldier of Fortune” on TikTok Live
Last night’s Colquhoun Entertainment TikTok Live brought something truly special—**Advocatus Diaboli** performed a powerful rendition of the classic **“Soldier of Fortune.”** Streaming live from the Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center stage, the performance carried raw emotion, haunting melody, and the signature dramatic flair that fans have come to love.
“Soldier of Fortune” is a song that tells a story of weariness, wandering, and quiet strength—and Advocatus Diaboli embodied every note with a depth that gave the classic new life.
Though there wasn’t a full set or full band, sometimes less is more. The focus on the vocals gave listeners a stripped-back and soulful connection to the lyrics, echoing through the desert night.
Colquhoun Entertainment’s TikTok lives continue to bring unique content from our off-grid location—where the spirit of music, storytelling, and theatrical presence thrives under the stars.
If you missed it, keep an eye out for upcoming live sessions. You never know when Advocatus Diaboli will emerge from the shadows for another unforgettable performance.

We Drove Through a Flooded Desert Road—Water Over the Doors!
**Monsoon Season Hits the Desert With a Vengeance: Our Flooded Road Adventure**
Living off-grid in the New Mexico desert means you’re always at the mercy of nature—and monsoon season doesn’t show mercy. This year, it came in swinging.
We had heard the monsoon was headed our way, so we made a quick run into town to grab water and essentials. What we didn’t expect was just how fast the roads would flood. Eleven miles of dirt road turned into a wild riverbed, and by the time we hit mile five, we were deep in it—literally.
The water rose fast and high, at points reaching the bottom of the car doors. We had the pedal to the floor and still barely crept forward. The car’s exhaust bubbled under the surface of the flood water as we pushed through—hoping not to stall out.
And just like that, we reached home—where it hadn’t rained at all. The land was dry. Not a single drop. That’s the strange beauty of monsoon season in the high desert: one area can be underwater while another stays bone dry.
🎥 **Watch the video** of our wild journey back home and see for yourself what life off-grid in the desert really looks like during a monsoon.

Almost Gave Up on This Off-Grid Shower Build… But We Pushed Through! 💪🛠️
🌦️ Rainy Desert Days & A Shower Build Full of Lessons
DIY Life at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun
It’s been a stretch of cloudy, rainy, and warm days here on the New Mexico desert — and despite the gloomy skies, we’ve been pushing forward with our off-grid shower build at Plateau Hame de Colquhoun.
The main structure is now complete! We still need to install the on-demand water heater, finish the drainage system, and run the water hoses — but we’re close. The only thing holding us back now is gathering a few more supplies.
This build hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing — not because it was technically complex, but because of our learning curve with tools and miscommunications during the process. With Brent still recovering from multiple strokes and carotid artery surgery, he’s limited to using only one good arm. That means our teamwork has been more important than ever — and sometimes, a bit chaotic.
While Anne and I were finishing up the door, I broke three drill bits and stripped out more screw heads than I care to admit. Frustrated, Brent stepped in to help. Despite only having the use of one arm, he drilled the holes and put in the screws like it was nothing. Honestly, it was inspiring to watch — he made it look effortless. But it came with a cost. His bad arm, hand, and shoulder swelled up afterward. Thankfully, the swelling had gone down by the next morning. It was a reminder of both how far he’s come in recovery and how important it is to pace ourselves.
Just a few weeks ago, he couldn’t even hold a drill. And now? He’s back to problem-solving and building — one-handed and determined. We’ll be wrapping up the final plumbing parts soon and will share the full off-grid shower reveal once everything’s running!
Thanks for following along with our journey — from stroke recovery and DIY struggles to homestead progress and desert storms.
Stay weird & wild,
\~The Ka-Hoon Crew

Flat Tire, Monsoon & Stroke Recovery – One Unexpected Day That Tested Everything!
### 🌧️ **When It Rains, It Pours—Literally (But We Keep Rolling)**
Yesterday was one of those classic desert days where everything goes a little sideways—and then the sky opens up just to top it off.
We were on our way to Brent’s physical therapy when something punctured the sidewall of our tire. With limited use of his left side since his strokes earlier this year, Brent couldn’t jump in to change it like he used to. That was hard for him—he’s always been the kind of guy who takes care of things. But he still guided me through every step, making sure everything was tightened and done right. It was teamwork in a different way, and I couldn’t have done it without him.
A few kind folks stopped to check on us, but after seeing Brent, they quietly left. I know it stung, even if they meant no harm. Recovery comes with a lot of physical challenges—but emotional ones, too. We’re learning and adjusting every day.
Once we got the donut on, we made it to PT and then headed to Discount Tire. Just as we pulled in, the skies opened up in a full-blown monsoon. We had to wait out the rain in the car before we could go inside—and yes, we got video proof of that desert downpour moment.
Thankfully, the tire was covered under warranty, and we left with a brand-new one and a little bit of peace of mind. Even when things don’t go as planned, we’re grateful for small wins and moments of progress.
Life off-grid in the New Mexico desert isn’t always easy. Between road adventures, recovery, and stormy surprises, we’ve learned to lean into the chaos and find strength in the calm between.
