Caught on Camera: Mysteries of the West Mesa “Hiding”— What Was Hiding That Night? 👀🎃

Vault Video: Mysteries of the West Mesa “Hiding”— Halloween at Ka-Hoon Campground 🎃

In honor of Halloween (Samhain), we’re diving into our vault and sharing eerie stories from the desert — the *Mysteries of the West Mesa.*

One dark desert night, our dogs began barking wildly. Thinking it might just be the wind or wildlife, I let them out — but their behavior turned aggressive. Brent went to check things out, but couldn’t see anything in the darkness.

Curious, I pulled up the security camera footage — and what I saw made my heart race. There appeared to be a shadowy figure, possibly a person, hiding under the Greenroom. I immediately called out to Brent, who went to investigate, but when he arrived… nothing was there.

Was it a trick of the light, a traveler seeking shelter, or something beyond explanation? What do you think happened that night?

Join us **Saturday, November 1st** for a night of **dancing, bonfires, and intention setting** at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center — a perfect time to release the old and welcome the new.

Ka-Hoon Plateau hame de Colquhoun

Some may notice a few differences.. We are still Plateau Hame De Colquhoun,  but we will be going by Ka-Hoon, which is how Colquhoun is pronounced.. You may even notice that the Art of tiny living page has been renamed. It will become Life with the Colquhoun page. (I screwed up and gave it the wrong name, and now I have to wait 30 days to change it.

We are doing this all as it’s easier to pronounce Ka-hoon and shorter. We no longer do the Tiny living stuff, so thereno reason to keep it. We will also be making changes to the website.

We’ve had so many people contact us asking us to do more lives. We aim at doing lives a few times a week here on Facebook on the “wrong named page” Ka-Hoon Campground and on the Plateau Hame De Colquhoun YouTube channel.  We hope to add Tiktok soon.

Don’t forget we have the NM 2024 Nomad Gathering in the Desert coming up and have a few more exciting events that we’ll be releasing soon! So please stay tuned, like this post, and follow us!!

Dogs morning routine

It’s Monday already. We have a few things planned today if the weather permits.

Advocatus Diaboli is supposed to come over and rehearse. A few neighbors are supposed to come and work on a project, which can be done as long as it doesn’t get windy.

I’m still working on my crochet project. I was able to figure out a way to make 2 at once. I probably been done with 2 yesterday, but idk why I kept screwing up and had to keep restarting.

Repairing the Hut that hosts the compost toilet.

We had a nice warm, sunny, very little wind Saturday.

Which made an almost perfect day to put the roof on the hut. We had purchased the Hut on the market place, the builder had reporpused corgated tin. The tin had screw holes that leaked. Inside the hut is a compost toilet.

We had a camper give us some  commercial refrigerator sealant tubes that we used to fill the holes.

After sealing the holes, we placed a sheet of osb over the tin.

While we worked, the dogs hung outside with us, did some sun bathing, and watched.

Brent is attaches the OSB, getting the roof ready for the next step.

The little solar panel attached to the hut is for a small charging station and runs the lights inside.

A neighbor had some extra rubber roofing that we sealed with the refrigerator sealant.

While putting the rubber roof, after putting the sealant on it, a gust of wind hit, and we found out that sealant gets stringy and  goes all over.

We all ended up getting covered in the sealant…

But we did get it finished and headed into town for a shower.

Commissioned Project for Advocatus diaboli

It’s Saturday, and the temps are 25 outside, 48 inside.

I spent most of yesterday crocheting Advocatus Diaboli commissioned pieces, I finished up the black and purple stuffy.. Now I’m going to do a few small ones before finishing up 2 bigger ones.

Brent had spent the day helping a neighbor haul a few towers that the neighbor plans yo use to make a wind mill.

We had looked into wind turbines.. The issue is (from out understanding) that they are rated for 30 mph winds, but not a constant 30. We can get days of 30 mph with gusts of 50 or more. So we decided against doing it. We hope that it works for this neighbor. If it does, it may be something we do for ourselves.

We have had a few other neighbors try different wind turbines, but they didn’t last long. Fingers crossed 🤞 it works

Cold New Mexico morning at Plateau hame de Colquhoun

Woke up this morning, and it was cold! It was 27 outside, 39 inside. Usually, it isn’t that cold inside,  but we didn’t turn on the heat last night, so probably why.

The heat is on now, and we are warming up. If you had seen the video yesterday, you saw that we got most of the Hut finished.  We do need to seal the roof, but it has to be a non windy, warm day to seal.

I’m not sure yet what today’s plans are. I do know I’ll be working on Advocatus Diaboli merch, he had asked me to make. I’m enjoying doing it, but my hands aren’t.  I’ve almost got the 3rd (including the example one) done. I really like the one I’m making now. It’s black and dark purple!  It’s the second image, I still need to make the body and assemble.

Working on hut that hosts the compost toilet

Thursday, January 8th, 64 degrees and windy. We got tired of waiting for a nice day and decided to work on the “Hut.” We had purchased this little building off the Market for an outdoor toilet with a compost toilet.

The person who built it with previously used corgated metal.  Which means it has screw holes. Every time it’d get windy, you could feel the wind come right through.  Also, when we get snow or a heavy rain, it leaks.

We had been waiting for a nice non windy day, but today we gave up waiting and finished the inside. We weren’t able to redo the roof, but we plan to do it when it’s not as windy.

Working hard crocheting project

Tuesday Jan 16 11 am temp is 44 outside and sunny.

Again we have a sunny quiet day but other things get in the way that prevents us from working on projects.  Ever noticed that when you have time the weather isn’t good?

Advocatus Diaboli has commissioned me to crochet some merch for him and the band. I have the prototype and half of one finished. I’m not the fastest at crocheting, my hands get sore. But I love doing it and seeing the finished product.  I’m on a bit of a time crunch,  it takes me about 18 hours to make. I been asked to make 4.

The one in image one is the prototype.. I have a few errors, but not bad for the first time making anything like this. 2nd image, what I have done so far of the second one.

Once finished, I think they will be available on Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band Facebook and website . I plan on making smaller versions too.
