Laundry Day, Hauling water and the New Shower

Last night we relaxed and hung out with some friends. Today is laundry day. Which means spending most of the day in town getting laundry done. While there we also stop and pick up the mail, fill up a couple of 5 gallons of water, hitting Planet Fitness for showers, then probably doing a quick Walmart run before heading back home.

If you’re like us, we don’t look forward to laundry day. When we first moved here we thought we’d save some money and only wash the clothes then dry them here at home. Well that was a huge mistake, wet clothes and sand don’t go together. Not to mention how the sun bleached everything out. Needless to say we quit doing that and now dry out clothes at the laundromat.

Every time we go into town we fill 5 gallon jugs of water. Right now this is our only water source.

Once the shower is built we will be hauling 300 gallons of water at a time that will mainly only be for the shower. We still need to purchase one more IBC tote that will remain in the 20 ft box trailer and be the water tank for the shower. We will have a 300 gallon tote in the pickup that we use to haul the water.

Since we have to haul all our water, we are not yet sure how we are going to run the shower. Do we add a charge per person for nightly stay, or once they are here they can purchase a shower? We kinda like the idea of waiting until they are here and can pay if they want a shower, as not everyone that stays will want a shower. Let us know what you think, and what you think would be a reasonable charge for a shower.

Ignore the heater in the photo I have not yet stored it for the summer, also the trash bags you see is our recycling*

Neighbors, Community and event’s

10 am and 87 degrees out. Last night Brent and a couple of the neighbors ran to Albuquerque to buy some railroad ties Brent found on the Market place. Though we didn’t get any ourselves, both neighbors needed them and didn’t have a vehicle big enough to haul them. Brent being Brent offered his truck and drove them. This morning he went to unload the ties, and help plant some posts.

We love how most of the neighbors come together and help each other. We do community events here and Dusty Nail General Store sells items we all have made art, jewelry, wash clothes plus other items.

Community events all the funds go back towards the community and community needs. The West Mesa Haunted Hay Ride is such an event. This year it will run for two nights. This Hayride isn’t for the faint of heart.

During your camping we have a neighbor that offers meals and eggs delivered to your campsite. She also cooks during events such as the Nomad Gathering in the Desert . Her menu can be found on the website.

You are welcome to come camp and or attend an event and experience this magical, beautiful landscape, atmosphere yourselves!

Campsite signs

Today we are working on signs for the campsites. We have them all painted now just need to seal them.

Yesterday we took the day off, and did some much needed cleaning. It’s been quiet and kinda weird not getting ready for any major events. We do have the Camping and Movie night every month. We are also working on a music night with some bands. Come hang out , camp, drink and listen to music. We have a couple bands in mind, but if you or your band is interested in playing at this or another event please contact us.

We also have the West Mesa Haunted Hay Ride coming up in October. This year it will be a 2 night event. With more scares than last year! We are in need of a few volunteers to help out with the Hayride. If you are interested please let us know!
