Desert Dogs Take Over Off-Grid Life! You Won’t Believe What They Do Every Day!

**Desert Dog Chronicles: Life With Our Off-Grid Canine Crew**

Living off-grid in the New Mexico desert brings a mix of peace, chaos, wildlife, and plenty of four-legged entertainment. Our dogs have become masters of desert life, each with a personality that adds something unique to our days. From patrol duties to playtime to dealing with unexpected nighttime visitors, every day is its own adventure.

## **Meet the Desert Crew**

### **Dreugan – The Commander**

Dreugan is the leader of the group, the one who takes charge, keeps watch, and makes sure everyone is doing exactly what they *should* be doing… even if they rarely are. He oversees everything with a seriousness that makes the rest of the chaos even funnier.

### **Vibria – The Fearless Powerhouse**

Vibria may be young, but she’s strong, fast, and muscled up—a true desert athlete. She barrels across the sand with confidence, taking on bushes, wind, odd noises, and imaginary threats with equal enthusiasm. Nothing scares her, and nothing slows her down.

### **Lurch – The Proper Gentleman**

Lurch approaches desert life with elegance, caution, and a surprising amount of politeness. Whether he’s stepping over rocks or weaving through brush, he does it like he’s wearing an evening coat and should not be soiled.

### **Persephone – The Ball Enthusiast**

Persephone has one mission in life: **her ball**. She doesn’t dig, wander, or chase after desert creatures. Instead, she sits in perfect focus, waiting for playtime. The world could fall apart around her, and she would still be locked onto that ball like it holds the secrets of the universe.

## **Daily Life in the Desert**

Each day begins with energy, excitement, and the dogs bursting into the outdoors like it’s their personal playground. Dreugan immediately takes charge of patrol, Vibria launches into high-speed adventures, Lurch attempts to stay clean and composed, and Persephone waits patiently for someone—anyone—to throw that ball.

The desert gives them plenty to investigate: shifting scents, rustling brush, birds overhead, and the occasional coyote strolling by. It’s a never-ending landscape of curiosity, freedom, and fun.

## **Nighttime Visitors: The Free-Range Bulls**

When evening falls, the desert comes alive in a very different way. New Mexico is a free-range state, meaning cattle can roam anywhere in their designated range unless fenced out. That includes right by our home—something we’re perfectly fine with.

The bulls especially seem to enjoy our area. Some nights they challenge each other, bellowing, hollering, and wrestling until sunrise. It’s loud, chaotic, and very much part of our off-grid life.

The dogs take it all in stride. Dreugan stays alert, Vibria watches with interest, Lurch keeps a respectful distance, and Persephone continues to focus entirely on her ball.

## **Life Off-Grid Brings Stories Worth Sharing**

Living in the desert with this crew means there’s always something happening—unexpected visitors, playful chaos, and moments of pure comedy. Our dogs love the space to run, explore, and express their personalities in ways only the desert can inspire.

Every day here brings a new story, and these four make sure it’s never boring.

Caught on Camera: Desert Trespassers, Midnight Bulls & Off-Grid Chaos at Ka-Hoon Campground!

Late-Night Trespassers at Ka-Hoon Campground… and Other Desert Drama**

Most nights at **Plateau Hame De Colquhoun** are peaceful—the kind of quiet that makes you forget the rest of the world exists. Just desert skies, soft winds, and the occasional animatronic warming up for **Music in the Desert**.

Then there are nights like last night.
The nights where the desert decides to host its own reality show.

We caught **two trespassers** on camera.
Neither had permission.
Neither respected the “No Trespassing” signs.
Neither cared even a little.

## **Trespasser #1**

* Height: about a foot
* Long ears: satellite-level reception
* Movement: Olympic-level hopping
* Attitude: high

It was, without a doubt, a **jack rabbit** on a mission.

This fuzzy renegade zipped across **Ka-Hoon Campground** like it was late for rehearsal with **Advocatus Diaboli** and the **Grim Leafer Band**. It didn’t pause, didn’t wave, and definitely didn’t stop by the **Dusty Nail General Store** to contribute to the local economy.

Truly a rebellious spirit.

## **Trespasser #2**

* Height: 2–3 feet on all fours
* Tail: maximum fluff
* Eyes: full “try me”
* Species: **Coyote**, desert troublemaker extraordinaire

This one walked past the camera like it owned the whole **Ka-Hoon Event Center**. It stopped just long enough to stare directly into the lens with the expression of:

> “I walk where I want. Don’t interrupt my schedule.”

Coyotes don’t break rules.
They ignore the concept of rules entirely.

## **If Seen… Please Invite Them to Offgrid Talk**

We aren’t trying to track them down.
We’d just like to politely inform them:

**Offgrid Talk starts at 8 a.m. MST on TikTok.
All desert residents welcome.**

They already:

* Live off-grid
* Ignore boundaries
* Wander freely across **Plateau Hame De Colquhoun**
* And act like they’re long-term members of our **Membership program**

Might as well give them a voice.

## **Meanwhile… the Bulls Returned (Because of Course They Did)**

Just when we thought the night couldn’t get louder, the **free-range bulls** rolled in like they were scheduled entertainment.

They proceeded to:

* Holler
* Buller
* Wrestle
* Slam into each other
* And perform a full-contact dance battle

All.
Night.
Long.

At one point, it sounded like two dump trucks arguing over a parking spot. Even the coyote paused and went, “Bro… chill.”

If you think desert living is quiet, you have never lived next to free-range bulls with personal problems.

## **Desert Life Keeps Us Laughing**

Between the wildlife, the weirdness, and the 3 a.m. bull brawls, life at **Ka-Hoon Campground** is anything but boring.

Add in:

* the odd and unusual bands booked through **Melodie’s Oddities**
* the clean audio and reliable sound work from **Jafo Productions** (the unsung heroes behind many shows)
* the off-grid entertainment through **Colquhoun Entertainment**
* the animatronics of **Advocatus Diaboli** and the **Grim Leafer Band**
* and a few overly confident tumbleweeds…

And you’ve got a place where every day writes its own story.

We live off-grid, we laugh a lot, and we take the chaos in stride. Wildlife, music, community—it’s all part of what makes this place special.

If you see the rabbit, the coyote, or the bulls…
Tell them Offgrid Talk starts at 8 a.m.
We’ll save them a spot and hope they bring good stories.

I Didn’t Understand Why He Left… Until Years Later. My Thanksgiving Confession.

The Thanksgiving Thank-You I Never Got to Give — And Still Carry With Me**

**Plateau Hame de Colquhoun • Ka-Hoon Campground & Event Center • Colquhoun Entertainment**

Thanksgiving is the season for giving thanks… but sometimes the things we’re most thankful for are also the ones we look back on with a little regret.
This week, as I walked across the quiet desert at **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center**, something heavy but heartfelt came to mind — a thank-you I never got to give.

When I was a young, naïve 21-year-old in college in Arkansas, I met someone who changed my world for a little while.
His name was **Billy**.

Billy quickly became my best friend.
We watched movies, hung out between classes, took spontaneous adventures — even spent Spring Break exploring Mississippi together. He was kind, funny, patient, and one of the first people who made me feel truly understood.

But I was young. And honestly? I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

Billy had told me he cared about me, but I didn’t recognize the hints. I saw him as my best friend — nothing more, nothing less. My parents warned me, “You can’t change him,” and I didn’t understand, because I loved him exactly as he was. I wasn’t trying to change anything. I just didn’t understand the depth of what he felt for me at the time.

Eventually, life moved on. I met someone, got married, and that’s when Billy told me he couldn’t stay in my life anymore.
He said it felt *awkward*.

I didn’t understand then why my best friend couldn’t stay my best friend.

But years later — after growing up, after life knocked me around a bit, after I learned how complicated hearts can be — I finally understood. And that realization stayed with me.

I’ve tried searching for him over the years, off and on, but without remembering his last name, it’s been next to impossible.

So this Thanksgiving, I’m putting this out into the world:

**Billy, if you’re out there, I’m sorry.**
I truly had no idea what you were trying to tell me back then.
I treasure the friendship we had, and I hope your life turned out full of the happiness you deserved.
And if you ever read this — I’d still love to reconnect, even just to say thank you.

Sometimes the people who help shape us never get to hear the impact they left behind.

This year, that’s my Thanksgiving reflection — gratitude for someone from long ago, and a hope that maybe this message finds its way home.
