Musician Cancelled last minute

Well Jay Floyd cancelled on us last minute for today’s Saturday May 6th.

But the show will go on. We’ll have a night of laughs, singing, relaxation, if the weather permits a bonfire!

Today’s my Dads 78th Birthday, though he’s in Minnesota, everyone is welcome to come help celebrate his birthday!

The show starts at 6 pm

Bring your instruments, singing voices and join in!

It’s FREE to attend and all are welcome!

Flowers, weeds, bees and hummingbirds

May 4, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

This year we have these really pretty flowers growing. We think they are gypsum scorpion weeds. Though not sure but the many google searches come up as such. If they are, what we read they can be used as a cover plant to help kill out other weeds. We hope they will smother out the goat heads. We fear that we are screwing up by allowing them to grow, but that last few days we’ve seen many bees and hummingbirds enjoying them. .

Getting things ready.

Yesterday we lowered the solar panels to 35°, during this time of year when the panels are at 45° the sun rises behind the panels and they don’t get as much sun for as long. By lowering them to 35° it eliminates that issue.

If you haven’t seen anyone mow the desert you have now. Yesterday we mowed, raked to get ready for the upcoming events!

Off-grid no electricity

May 2, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

It’s that time of year again.. This morning we woke up to no electricity. We didn’t think it was time yet, but now we know for sure. Every Spring and Fall we have to adjust the solar panels angles to get the best sun. Spring and summer if the panels are at 45 degrees they don’t get a full day of sun, as the sun rises behind them, and don’t hit the panels until later in the day. So sometimes in May we lower them to 32 degrees. Last year we had no issues until the end of May, I guess we’ll be lowering them sooner.

Don’t worry we don’t run the batteries low, the inverter is set to shut down at 50% battery.

This week we are getting things ready for Saturdays May 6th concert with Jay Floyd , Monday May 8th Camping and Movie “Avatar” and May 19th to 21st Nomad Gathering in the Desert !

I’m hoping to add pictures of the products that we offer at the Dusty Nail General Store on it’s Facebook page.

We have been working on the West Mesa Haunted Hay Ride in October. This year it will be 2 nights of Hayrides. A 45 minute journey through desert roads . Not appropriate for all ages

May 8th Camping and Movie Avatar campsites can be reserved on the website or by contacting us.Movie is free for all campers and starts at sunset.

Only 19 days until the Nomad Gathering in the Desert ! A fun packed weekend with Talent Show, Movie “Off the Map” made right here in New Mexico, Bonfires, hanging out, BINGO, Live Music with @jerkillinger and @J5th&the77Riders , Silent Auction.

You can register for the Nomad Gathering through the website, by contacting us, or at the Dusty Nail General Store upon your arrival. All registrations bought at the store are for First come first serve sites.

If you aren’t able to make one of the events listed you are welcome to come out and camp, make your stay yours. If you would like to play some music, set up your own small concert, open mic during your stay contact us.

Neighbors Gathering

April 30, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

Little get together here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun . Last night we enjoyed having a few of the neighbors over and singing some Karaoke.

Come May 6th we’ll have the stage setup for Jay Floyd . This is a free event and all are welcome to come and join in on the fun! Bring your instruments and play along, or do your own stuff.

Free ranged cattle in the desert

April 29, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

This morning we had a big black bull come and visit. He was very respectful and stayed his distance. We try to prevent the cattle from coming into the yard. We can put up a fence but we love the open feeling of the land, and don’t mind seeing the cattle come through. We have put up motion detectors where sirens go off and so far that has kept them out of the yard away from the solar panels. These cattle do not get much human contact and free ranged on 1000s of acres, they don’t care about being around us and tend to keep a distance. We return their respect and give them their space and ask all that come and visit or stay to do the same.

During your stay whether it’s for the Nomad Gathering in the Desert on May 19th to 21st, or seeing Jay Floyd in Concert on May 6th, one of the Camping and Movie nights, Haunted Hay ride, camping or just visiting you may see the cattle pass through or along your route out.

Like any wild animals we do ask that you not to feed the cattle, or try to approach them., They may look friendly, calves may look cute. They can and will hurt you, so respect them and watch them from a distance.

Jay Floyd Concert May 6th

All are welcome, come stay a few hours or camp! Campsites are filling up, you can reserve your campsite by contacting us personally, or through one of the platforms listed on our website!

Sites are booking fast for the Nomad Gathering in the Desert on May 19th to 21st. Just $20 a person to attend this fun packed weekend with a movie under the stars, talent show, bonfires, games, silent auction and live music by some very talented local bands Jer Killinger Singer/Songwriter and J5th & the 77 Riders !

Living at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun

April 26, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

We love living out here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun in the desert off-grid most of the time. There are a few conveniences we do miss. One is the ability to have deliveries, we are not able to get mail, packages delivered, which has caused issues in the past. Another one is the ability to take a shower whenever we like, even after getting the shower finished we won’t be able to take a nice long hot shower, as we haul all our water at 250 gallons at a time. Even after the shower is finished we plan to continue to shower at Planet Fitness like we do now.

We have electricity, water, privacy, beautiful views of mountains, sunsets, sunrises, stars, great neighbors, we can be as loud or quiet as we like. We love music, camping, movies and hanging out with others. All we can do here at home without issues. What more can you ask for?
