Laundry Day while Anne in Classes

June 14, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

While Anne in Classes Brent and I take advantage of the trip and get laundry done. But don’t think we’ll be coming back to this laundromat. It’s clean, but only a couple of the washers work, and the price is more than those in Belen. The dryers cost more yet don’t dry your clothes. Next week we’ll probably go back to Belen. One visit to this laundromat we found a syringe on the folding table.

We came here as it’s closer to the college, but traveling a little further is the better choice.

Other news.. The new Studio is setting up nicely. In need of bookshelves if anyone knows of any. We are looking for cheap stairs (in good shape) to go to the deck on top of the studio. We’ve been thinking about the spiral staircase.

Don’t forget this Saturday will be the camping and Movie Night !

We are also in need of Volunteers for the West Mesa Haunted Hay Ride a 2 night event October 20 and 21! Free camping those 2 nights for all volunteers.

Good and Bad News here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun

Plateau Hame De Colquhoun has good and bad news!

First let me explain a few things: The plan had been to make the Bluemoon into a Studio, but lack of room due to PA taking up 90% of the space. It made it hard to do much, let alone setup a studio. We also have around 20 boxes still in storage of books that need a home.

Let’s start with the bad news. We will not be able to build a roof over the stage, or deck over the Bluemoon as planned.

Now onto the good news.. JAFO Productions now has a studio, we have a place for the books (now need bookshelves). We also now have an alternative place for a stage that we can put a cover over.

This last week we had an opportunity that made us make a hard decision.. Build roof , deck over stage and Bluemoon, go through with our plans of seeing one of my favorite bands Red Mesa off. Or buy this once in a lifetime offer. .. Do we need to tell you what we decided?

We decided to go with the trailer in the photos, this is an old office trailer, insulated and wired (price was just little more then what we had saved for a roof (not including the deck we wanted too).. Has a side and back double doors, deck off the side door and deck on the top. So no roof over the stage, no deck on top of the Bluemoon. But now we have a Studio and Library (as soon as we find book shelves)! We also now have a deck overlooking the Rio Grande Valley and much of the Southern point of West Mesa (need stairs).

June Camping and Movie Night

We’ll be playing “Avatar Way of Water”

The movie starts at Dusk, gates open for all at 6pm.

Gates open at noon for all Pre-registered parking and campers.

Outside food, drink is welcome, you can BBQ up until the movie starts.

Our first Homestead here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun

To go with yesterday’s post, I thought I would share one video of our homestead when we first arrived here.

As you can see many things have changed since moving here in October of 2020. At the point of the video there were only 2 of us living full time this far out on the mesa.

I can’t say it’s been easy, but I also can’t say I dislike it. I have done so many things I never thought I’d do.

My Dad made sure I understood how much damage a gun can do. I was fearful of guns and wouldn’t touch one. But since living here, I had to learn to handle guns. Before moving here I wouldn’t kill another living thing (I’m not against it, just wouldn’t do it and had Brent handle it). I’ve had to learn about solar, composting and so many other things.

Moving to Plateau Hame De Colquhoun

I got a memory of fixing a trailer and thought I share a little of our story.

In January of 2020 we purchased our little piece of land in New Mexico that we now call Plateau Hame De Colquhoun ! Photo 1 and 2 had been our 3rd and final visit to the land before heading back to Minnesota. During this visit our friend who we had been helping out had given us a paver to place a marker, which we did. We wrote Colquhoun on the brick and left it at the center of the property (where the flag pole is now).

While here in New Mexico we found a 1992 Lazy Daze Class C RV, that we had purchased to live in and haul all our stuff back once we were ready to make the move.

In Minnesota we had lived in a 2500 square foot 1880 Victorian and part time in a 8×16 fish house (we fixed up and converted into a Tiny House) that is located on an environmental center, we site managed. Until 2018 when the 4 of us, 2 dogs and a cat moved full time into the Tiny House.

Summer of 2020 due to Covid the center had closed down, which meant we only had to maintain the grounds. This gave us time to get ready for our move to New Mexico.
We found a cheap 20ft enclosed trailer that we used to haul our stuff. But there was a reason this trailer was cheap, part of the roof had been ripped off, floor supports were rusted through, and no wheel wells .

We never thought the trailer was going to get finished at every turn we’d fine more wrong with it. But we did it and after selling most of our items we had in storage, we began our new adventure of living here in New Mexico on our beautiful piece of land.

Yet another day in the Desert

June 7, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

It’s sunny and raining out today. Not much going on here today, this morning Anne had school and I had a Drs appointment. I am now working on making more sage bundles. Sometimes I think about going with regular size smudge sticks, as it’d be a little easier. But everyone loves the mini sage sticks. So I will continue with what I am doing. We will be offering the sage sticks in the Dusty Nail General Store for $1.00 each, or as Brent will say 5 for $5.00 lol.

Only 10 more days until the camping and Movie Night ! The Movie is free, camping and VIP parking is available. This month’s movie will be Avatar 2! Check out our website for more information.

July 15th will be Renfeild with Nicholas Cage

Mini Sage Sticks

June 6, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

Hope everyone week is going well, I have been busy rolling sage sticks. When we lived in Minnesota Brent and I would spend a weekend every fall harvesting wild sage dry it and then create mini sage sticks. While visiting Minnesota last fall I had harvested some sage that I am now bundling.

Everyone that comes out and camps here at Plateau Hame De Colquhoun gets a welcome packet that includes a mini sage stick that we harvest and bundle ourselves.

The first 5 people to pre-register for the June 17 camping and Movie Night will get a free gift bag that will include one of our mini sage sticks, along with some other goodies from the Dusty Nail General Store .

First day of college, laundry and dogs

June 5, 2023 Ka-Hoon Campground

This morning while taking Anne Calhoun to her first day of College. Brent and I took advantage of the trip into town to get the laundry done. While sitting here at the laundromat I look in the back to see Amigo and Dreugan laying together. All the windows are down, I’m sitting in the car with them, and sitting in the shade, yet they both want to have the same window.
