Advocatus Diaboli’s 3-Week Stroke Recovery Update: From Surgery to Singing Again

Advocatus Diaboli’s 3-Week Stroke Recovery Update: From Surgery to Singing Again

It’s been three weeks since Brent, the man behind **Advocatus Diaboli**, experienced a stroke that changed everything—but not his spirit. We’re proud to share that his recovery is coming along steadily, and one of the most powerful tools aiding his progress has been something close to his heart: *music*.

This week, Brent—still recovering—performed **”Another Man’s Grave” by Amigo the Devil**, and the results are nothing short of inspiring. From just two days after surgery to now, Brent has been singing his way through recovery. His vocal strength and emotional presence are growing stronger with each performance, and you can follow that journey on the **Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band** YouTube channel.

Music has been more than therapy—it’s been a lifeline. Every week, we’re sharing updates on Brent’s progress, and his resilience continues to shine through each note, lyric, and beat.

**Catch the latest video update and see how far Brent has come—from the hospital bed to the stage.**

From Stroke to Song: Advocatus Diaboli Sings Again Just Weeks After Life-Changing Diagnosis

**From Off-Grid Peace to Hospital Alarms: Our Stroke Survival Journey**

Two weeks ago tonight, our peaceful, off-grid life in the New Mexico desert took a sudden and frightening turn. Brent—also known as Advocatus from our band *Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band*—began experiencing facial twitching. What we initially thought was a pinched nerve quickly spiraled into something far more serious.

Just a month earlier, Brent had lost movement in his arm and hand. Urgent Care diagnosed it as a pinched nerve and recommended an orthopedic visit. We booked the appointment, unaware that something much more dangerous was brewing beneath the surface.

The night we walked into the ER, everything changed. After hearing his symptoms, the medical team rushed Brent back immediately. That’s when real fear set in. X-rays and a CT scan revealed that Brent was having a stroke—and that the symptoms in his arm had actually been from a previous stroke, likely occurring around the time we visited Urgent Care weeks earlier.

A follow-up MRI confirmed it.

During his week-long hospital stay, Brent struggled with speech, and doctors were uncertain if he’d ever be able to sing again. For a man whose life revolves around music, it was a devastating possibility. But Brent is a fighter.

He underwent surgery to repair a clogged artery in his neck. Now he’s home, slowly regaining his strength. He’s singing again—his voice may not be at full strength yet, but it’s there. His arm is still affected, but we’re seeing small signs of progress. Only time will tell how much mobility he’ll recover.

These last two weeks have been filled with fear, uncertainty, and hard adjustments—but also love, resilience, and hope. I couldn’t be more proud of Brent. We are thankful for every day, every note sung, and every small step forward.

If you’ve followed our journey or are new to it, thank you for being here. Life off-grid isn’t always easy—but it’s real, it’s raw, and it’s ours.

Grateful Mornings and Healing Moments at Ka-Hoon Campground

As I sip my morning coffee and watch the desert sunrise, my heart is full of gratitude. This past week has tested us in ways we never expected—but it’s also reminded us how blessed we are.

While we were at the hospital, our amazing Ka-Hoon community stepped up in big ways. Campers took charge, welcoming new arrivals with kindness and care. My oldest brother helped bring Bryandt home so he could be by his dad’s side. Neighbors made sure Anne got to and from work safely and checked in on things at camp.

And the best news? Brent is home. He’s regaining strength every day. He’s starting to move his fingers again… and yes, *he can sing!* The healing journey isn’t over, but each day brings progress and hope.

To all of you who’ve supported us—thank you. From our family to yours, we’re so grateful to share this space and this journey with such an incredible community.

Just 2 Days After Stroke Surgery… He Sings Again – You Won’t Believe This Comeback!

Rising from the Ashes – A Week of Strength, Music, and Miracles**

This past week has been one of the hardest we’ve ever faced here at Ka-Hoon Campground & Colquhoun Entertainment. On Monday, our own Advocatus Diaboli suffered a subcortical stroke—unexpected, frightening, and life-altering. The days that followed were filled with uncertainty, hospital visits, and prayer. By Friday, he was in surgery to repair the artery causing the damage.

Doctors weren’t sure what the outcome would be. They even warned us he might not be able to sing again. But if you know Advocatus Diaboli, you know he doesn’t give up easily.

Just two days after surgery, he defied the odds—he sang again. Not at full strength yet, but close. And if you watch the video, you’ll see the fire is still there.

This isn’t just a story about music—it’s about grit, healing, and the power of community. We’re beyond grateful for those who’ve stood by us, sent love, and kept the music alive.

The desert can be quiet, but strength grows in the silence. We’re still here, still singing.
