We often get asked about how we manage our water supply. Here are some insights into our current options and challenges:
#### Bulk Water Hauling
We can haul bulk water using a 275-gallon IBC tote, which is the most cost-effective solution. We plan to rely on bulk water once we start building the shower facilities.
However, there are significant issues with hauling bulk water. The weight of the water combined with our rugged roads makes it tough on vehicles and trailers. The repair costs for our vehicles can outweigh the savings from hauling water ourselves. This challenge is one reason why we’ve paused our shower construction.
#### Community Solutions
We’re hoping that by banding together with the six households in our area, we can find a more sustainable solution. Ideally, we’d hire a delivery service that can cater to all of us. Unfortunately, our initial plan fell through when the suspension on our potential delivery person’s truck broke down.
#### Well Installation
The cost of drilling and maintaining a well isn’t feasible for us at this time. It’s a long-term goal, but for now, we need a more immediate solution.
#### Interim Measures
Until we figure out a reliable delivery method, either through a service or by organizing ourselves, we are using 5-gallon jugs filled at Twice the Ice. It’s not the most convenient method, but it gets us by.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate these challenges. We’re committed to finding a better solution soon.
**Reflecting on Last Night’s Drum Circle: A Night of Rhythm and Connection**
Last night’s drum circle at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center was a resounding success, filled with vibrant energy, rhythmic beats, and a sense of community that brought us all closer together. Despite many of us being novices, the experience was nothing short of magical.
**A Welcoming Gathering** We were delighted to see a nice group of participants show up, all eager to take part in the drum circle. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation as we gathered around the bonfire, ready to make music under the stars.
**Finding Our Rhythm** Even though many of us didn’t have prior experience with drumming, that didn’t deter our enthusiasm. The initial uncertainty quickly gave way to spontaneous creativity. With a mix of hand drums, shakers, and other percussion instruments, we started to find our collective rhythm. It was heartening to see everyone encouraging each other, sharing tips, and learning together.
**A Night of Connection** As the night progressed, the beats became more synchronized, and we lost ourselves in the music. The drum circle turned into a powerful means of expression, where words were unnecessary, and the rhythm did all the talking. Laughter and smiles were abundant, and the sense of connection was palpable.
**Under the Starry Sky** There’s something incredibly special about making music outdoors, under a blanket of stars. The natural beauty of the New Mexico desert added to the ambiance, making the evening even more unforgettable. The flickering bonfire, the rhythmic drumming, and the vast night sky created a perfect setting for a memorable experience.
**Looking Forward** We left the drum circle feeling invigorated and looking forward to more such events. The drum circle not only allowed us to explore our musical sides but also fostered a sense of community and shared joy. Whether you’re a seasoned drummer or a complete beginner, we welcome you to join us next time. It’s an experience that promises not just music, but also camaraderie and fun.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening special. We can’t wait to drum with you again soon!

As the temperature cools off in the evenings, there’s nothing quite like spending time outside, enjoying the cool night breeze. Whether you’re relaxing or working on a task, these moments are made even more special by the company of our feline friends. During the day, the cats usually find a cool spot under one of the containers to nap, but once night falls, they come to lay on or with us, sharing in the peacefulness of the evening.
There’s something truly comforting about their presence as we unwind after a long day. It’s a reminder of the simple joys and quiet companionship that make these evenings so enjoyable.
**Discover Ka-Hoon Campground: A Lesson in Solar Maintenance and Community**
At Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, the fusion of community and sustainability unfolds in unique ways, exemplified during a recent gathering at Cahoots Courtyard. We extend a warm welcome to visitors interested in our mission and activities, inviting you to schedule a personalized tour and chat.
During a leisurely Saturday with our newest Ka-Hoon Campground members, we encountered a practical lesson in solar panel maintenance. A cable from our solar array required attention, prompting us to shut down the main breaker for safety. After a straightforward repair involving relocating the cable to a spare connector, we inadvertently overlooked one crucial step – restoring power by turning the breaker back on.
The consequence of our oversight surfaced the following day while we were away running errands. An alert notified us of a potential shutdown of our inverter, a critical component of our solar setup. Thankfully, upon returning home, we swiftly rectified the situation, restoring normal operations and avoiding any prolonged disruption. Despite our prompt response, the afternoon’s overcast skies limited our solar recharge capacity, underscoring the importance of meticulous breaker management.
At Ka-Hoon Campground, these moments of shared learning and communal engagement define our commitment to sustainable living. Whether you’re captivated by our solar initiatives or simply eager to learn more about us and our aspirations, we encourage you to connect with our community. Join us on this journey where each day presents new insights and collaborative opportunities to thrive together.

General Announcements
We’ve been dealing with the heat and working on staying cool.
A few solar issues arose recently, including a cable being torn off the combiner box. We are unsure how this happened but are currently working on better safeguarding the area to prevent future incidents.
Advocatus Diaboli and the Grim Leafer Band will be performing at Stage Luchetti on June 29th.
Needed
Additionally, we are in need of an old 10×10 canopy frame (or equivalent). We don’t need the top; the frame doesn’t need to be perfect but should be repairable. We plan to decorate it with fairy lights and set it up in the Cahoots Courtyard. If anyone has something that could work, please contact us.
It’s a languid Saturday here in the heart of New Mexico, where the warmth of the day encourages us to find ways to stay cool. Amidst this tranquil setting, I thought I would share a delightful moment captured on camera: a rabbit hopping through our grounds and Dreugan, our faithful companion, displaying his charming antics with a touch of bravado.
In this serene desert landscape, life moves at a gentle pace. The simplicity of our surroundings allows us to appreciate the small joys and whimsical occurrences that make each day unique. The video we captured offers a glimpse into these moments, showcasing the natural beauty and quietude of our off-grid existence.
