When the Neighbors Are Cows: Sunset Visitors at Ladron Peak”
Out here at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, our “neighbors” tend to wander in without knocking — and tonight, it was a herd of free-range cattle stopping by for a sunset stroll! 🐄
While most folks get visits from friends or delivery drivers, we get cows casually grazing their way through the desert, acting like they own the place. As the sun dipped behind Ladron Peak, painting the sky in gold and fire, our four-legged guests posed perfectly for nature’s evening show.
Living off-grid means sharing space — sometimes with coyotes, sometimes with wind, and sometimes with a curious cow sniffing your camper steps. But honestly, it’s part of the magic out here. Peace, laughter, and the occasional moo. 🌄
If you’re looking to experience real desert life — complete with unforgettable sunsets, open skies, and maybe even a surprise cow encounter — visit http://www.plateauhamedecolquhoun.com and book your stay today!

Lonely Nights, Beautiful Skies: The Truth About Living Off-Grid in the Desert 🌌
Finding Peace in the Struggle: The Emotional Side of Living Off-Grid Under the Desert Sky
Living off-grid is a dream for many — but few truly understand the emotional strength it takes to live it every day. At *Plateau Hame De Colquhoun* (Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center), we embrace both the beauty and the hardship that come with desert life.

But then, as the sun sets and the sky opens up to millions of glittering stars, the peace returns. In those moments, every hardship becomes worth it. Living off-grid teaches resilience, gratitude, and connection — to nature, to simplicity, and to yourself.
If you’ve ever dreamed of desert living, come experience it with us at **Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center**. Whether you’re camping for a weekend or considering the off-grid lifestyle, there’s always a lesson and a bit of magic waiting under the desert sky.

Thinking of Long-Term Off-Grid Camping? Watch This Before You Book Your Stay!
Try Before You Stay: Why We Recommend Short-Term Off-Grid Camping First
At Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center, we get asked all the time about long-term stays. While we do welcome longer bookings, we always suggest starting with a short-term visit first.
Living off-grid or camping long-term isn’t quite the same as traditional camping. Every location, setup, and community has its own rhythm — and we want you to make sure it’s the right fit before committing.
A shorter stay gives you the opportunity to adjust, test your setup, and get a feel for the land, the desert environment, and our off-grid lifestyle. Many guests who plan for months end up realizing they prefer shorter visits, while others fall in love and extend their time here.
We want your off-grid experience to be positive and comfortable — and that starts by giving yourself the space to try it first.
Book a few nights, breathe the desert air, connect with nature, and see if Ka-Hoon Campground feels like home.

Surviving Desert Winds: How Our Off-Grid Outdoor Kitchen & Shower Were Put to the Test!
When we moved to New Mexico, we knew challenges were ahead. Wind was one of the biggest. Before moving, we tried to plan for it, but nothing could prepare us for days of **30 mph desert winds**. Our first outdoor kitchen lasted only two months before it was ripped apart.
With no choice, we purchased what we hoped would be a stronger replacement. At the same time, we reused parts from the broken kitchen to build an **outdoor shower area**. Living off-grid means adapting and rebuilding when nature pushes back.
But will these new shelters hold up to the desert winds? Stay tuned for upcoming videos to see how our setup survived!
✨ In honor of our **5th anniversary on Saturday, October 18th**, we’re hosting an **Open Mic Night**! Come in person, camp with us, or join from home online on our **Colquhoun Entertainment TikTok profile**.

From Tiny House to Off-Grid Life 🌵 Our First Step Toward Ka-Hoon Campground!
From Tiny House to Off-Grid Desert Life | Our First Art of Tiny Living Video
This vault video takes us back to the very beginning of *Art of Tiny Living*. Long before Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center came to life, we were documenting our journey in a small semi off-grid tiny house in Minnesota.
We had lived part-time in the tiny home for a couple of years before going full-time for three more. The house was unique—it started as a retired fish house purchased from a resort, then transformed into our cozy cabin. We hauled our water, used a porta potty, but had electricity. With repairs, painting, and some building, it became our first real step toward an off-grid lifestyle.
When it came time to move to New Mexico, hauling it wasn’t cost-effective, so we sold the home to the Environmental Center where we worked. Today, it serves as a guest house and staff quarters.
On October 18, 2020, we officially arrived in New Mexico to begin our new chapter. Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center is now our home, our passion, and the heart of our story.
Sit back, enjoy this throwback video, and follow along as we share more vault videos of our journey from tiny home living to desert off-grid adventures.

Desert Roads Flooded After Just a Few Drops of Rain! Free-Range Cattle Loving It 🌧🐄
Desert Rains Bring Surprising Floods Near Ka-Hoon Campground
Out here in the desert, it doesn’t take much rain to change the landscape. Over the last couple of days, we’ve had a little rain at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center—but not much at all. Just a few miles north of us, though, the roads told a different story.
Check out the video to see a few flooded spots, including one where free-range cattle were happily wading through the water. It’s amazing how such a small amount of rain can cause puddles, washouts, and mud across the mesa.
That’s desert life—one moment it’s dry and dusty, and the next, the roads are soaked. Even if we don’t get much on our end, the surrounding areas can flood quickly, and it can take a few days before the roads fully dry out.
Living off-grid in the New Mexico desert means embracing these surprises. From music echoing at Ka-Hoon Campground to cattle enjoying rainwater pools, the mesa is always full of unexpected beauty.
