Four years ago today, our journey to a new way of life began as we arrived in Belen, New Mexico. That first night, we stayed at Walmart, our trailer loaded with everything we could fit for the next chapter. Early the next morning, we unloaded at a storage unit before making our way to the land that would become our home.
Living off-grid has always been our dream, and settling here felt like the start of something truly special. It’s not just about surviving but thriving in an environment that encourages connection with nature and self-sufficiency. Those first days were a whirlwind of setting up camp, exploring the terrain, and figuring out how to make the desert our home.
Since then, we’ve grown in ways we never imagined. Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center has become more than just a place for us—it’s a place where others can come to disconnect from the noise of the world and reconnect with themselves and nature. We’ve hosted countless events and provided a safe, judgment-free space for people to enjoy the beauty of the desert.
Our philosophy is simple: life is too short to fit into someone else’s box. We’ve built a community where people can embrace who they truly are, free from judgment. Here at Ka-Hoon, you’re welcome to be yourself, no matter what that looks like.
We’ve also experienced our fair share of trial and error along the way, learning that not everything works out as planned—but that’s okay. We’ve adapted, tried different approaches, and ultimately created a space where others can also step back, breathe, and try again. Whether it’s through themed camping nights or unique events, Ka-Hoon is a place to reset and find a new path forward.

Rainy Day Fun at Ka-Hoon Campground: Music, Movies, and More!
**A Cozy Evening at Cahoots Courtyard**
Yesterday, we decided to take it easy after some light mowing in the morning to prepare for the private gathering in Cahoots Courtyard that evening. Before the event, a few campers and we spent the day relaxing and listening to Advocatus Diaboli perform some random songs, adding a delightful touch to our day.
Although the rain thwarted our plans to watch Rocky Horror Picture Show outside, we adapted quickly. We transformed the Greenroom into a cozy movie space, and everyone settled in for a snug, intimate viewing. Despite the weather, the evening turned out to be a wonderful experience, filled with laughter and camaraderie.

**Today at Ka-hoon Campground: A Day of Rest and Preparation**
Today is one of those days when motivation is hard to come by. The weather is warm but slightly cooler than it has been the past few days. Yesterday was a town run day; we usually wait until later in the day to go, as it’s cooler when we get back. We managed to get a few things done in the morning, and after returning, we did our Thursday night live rehearsal—at least as much as we could before the incoming weather interrupted us.
Today, aside from catching up on a few emails, updating the website, and some social media posts, we haven’t accomplished much. I was slow with today’s post and video, unsure of what to share.
Things are quiet here at Ka-hoon Campground and Event Center. While we have some campers, it’s less busy compared to the past couple of months. This weekend, we’re hosting a small private gathering, but it doesn’t require much from us. Unfortunately, the recent rain has caused the tumbleweeds to grow, which means we need to tackle the dreaded mowing. However, we’re not rushing to do it since it’s mostly tumbleweeds along the edges and not much else.
Looking ahead, we have the Members Only weekend, followed by the Music in the Desert Saturday Talent Show and Karaoke on the second Saturday of August. After that, we’re excited for the Anime Cosplay Contest with Talent Show Karaoke, culminating in an evening of watching anime under the stars.
For now, we’ll enjoy the quiet and use this time to rest and prepare for the busy times ahead.
