Storm Damaged Totaled Our RV: An Off-Grid Transition on the New Mexico Mesa

Extreme New Mexico Hail Storm Damage: Saying Goodbye to Our Mobile Home of 6 Years

It is so sad that a single, brutal 15-minute storm of 3-inch hail put an end to our Beast. This rig was our home for the last 6 years, traveling us around to many states and music festivals. We talked about buying it back and doing the repairs ourselves, but I just don’t feel comfortable doing it, and Brent needs to keep working hard on his recovery from his strokes. Our health has to come first.

Navigating the Emotional Packing and Moving Process After a Total Loss

This has been a very emotional couple of weeks—keeping the tarp on the RV, packing it up into totes, and dealing with the clutter. I know that when the tow truck comes to haul off the Beast and our home of the last 6 years, I am going to cry. Probably a lot more than I am right now writing this. Luckily, the Beast is fully insured and we will be fine, but it isn’t how we imagined it. We have been working so hard towards a goal of traveling again, and we had gotten so close to achieving that. But sometimes things happen that get you on a better path. Let’s hope this is such the case.

Setting Up Our Temporary Off-Grid Base Camp in the Music Studio

With the help of some wonderful neighbors, we plan to set up our bed in the back of the music studio until we find a replacement RV to call home. The music and the off-grid journey don’t stop here. Thank you all for holding down the perimeter with us.
