Stump, Paver, and Sign

The Juniper Stump: A Symbol of Connection and Community

As we embarked on our journey to our new land in October of 2020, we were greeted not only by the vast expanse of nature but also by two intriguing objects that would soon become integral parts of our home’s story.

The first object that caught our eye was a sturdy piece of metal, which would later transform into the Colquhoun sign, proudly marking the entrance to our humble abode. Yet, it was the second object—the old Juniper stump—that truly captured our imagination and hearts.

Strategically positioned at the center of our 5-acre plot, the Juniper stump stood as a silent sentinel, bearing witness to the passage of time and the ever-changing seasons. Despite its weathered appearance, it exuded a sense of quiet strength and resilience, inviting us to pause and reflect on the beauty of nature.

Over time, the Juniper stump has transformed from a mere relic of the past into a lively centerpiece of our grounds. Lit with solar lights and bathed in the evening glow, it now serves as a symbol of hospitality and community at Ka-Hoon Campground and Event Center. Visitors, whether camping or attending events, often leave small mementos on the stump and surrounding bricks, leaving a piece of themselves behind.

But perhaps what truly sets the Juniper stump apart is the paver that anchors it to the earth—a tangible link to our past and a symbol of our journey. Bearing the inscription “Colquhoun,” it serves as a reminder of the roots we’ve planted and the legacy we’re building on this land.

“When we arrived in October 2020, the Paver Stood Firm in Its Place”

Left on the land after our purchase in January of 2020, the Colquhoun paver remained steadfast in its place, patiently awaiting our return. And when we finally completed our move in October, it welcomed us home with open arms, a silent testament to the bonds of family and the power of belonging.

As we gaze upon the Juniper stump and the Colquhoun paver, we are reminded that home is more than just a place—it’s a feeling of connection, community, and belonging. And in the embrace of nature’s beauty, surrounded by the echoes of past and present, we find solace, inspiration, and the promise of endless possibilities.
